Sittaford Stone Circle submitted by davep on 26th May 2014. The Sittaford Stone Circle was discovered in 2007 as announced in January 2014 issue of the Devon Archaeological Society Newsletter. The stones are recumbent and/or buried. They are located at SX 63019 82813 not far to the west of Sittaford Tor. The Grey Wethers double stone circle is about 1km to the east-northeast. Dartmoor, shows evidence of recent damage by whatever farmer is running
huge tractors across the fields. S(he) has been driving right through
the rows (perpendicular to them) along several tracks. I saw evidence of
at least 3 stones that had been dislodged and pushed aside by the wheels
of the tractor. I don't know if there is a procedure for reporting such
damage, or even if the farmer is liable for such damage. I have never, in my 12 year...

Drizzlecombe menhir 2 submitted by TheCaptain on 13th Jun 2007. This magnificent menhir at the downhill end of row 2 (or C) at Drizzlecombe is the largest on Dartmoor, and said to be "by far the finest in the west of England".
I wouldnt argue with that.

Cairn 5 is easily found to the north of cairn 4, and about 100 metres distant from it.
This is a cute little thing with a complete stone ring around a central cist, but there is little remaining in the way of a cairn.

I wonder just what gold was found here in the past. All I found in the bottom of the cist was a frog!

SX 6550 7210 25m dia 9 stones remain. Must have been spectacular at one time with magnificent views to the northern horizon. The site is in poor condition
with many stones lying around that may have been from the circle. There is a single small standing stone on the hillside 100m SE from the circle. It is almost certainly prehistoric.
