Long Meg And Her Daughters submitted by nicoladidsbury on 13th Jul 2005. Long Meg in midsummer moonlight. The solstice night is very short, but when you're waiting for the sun to rise, it gives plenty of opportuntiy to experiment with photos! I took this photo around 2am, in the middle of the solstice night. The moon was shining very brightly casting beautiful moonlight shadows, it felt very magical. I turned up my ISO rating to catch as much light as I could, and set the timer for 30 seconds. This is the result. I know its a grainy picture, and rather odd, but the b...

Lower Piles
Date Added: 16th Jan 2017
Site Type: Ring Cairn
Country: England (Devon)
Visited: Would like to visit

Lower Piles submitted by simcon on 29th Aug 2003. SX645603 Lower Piles Hill Cist, Dartmoor Devon. This is marked on the OS map as one of a pair of cairns, but it's obviously a cist. The view is looking west where you can see Burford Down which has rows and a circle. My OS map doesn't show access for Burford Down and I did find it surrounded by a boundary wall and bracken so I didn't visit it. Right of this picture is the remains of a settlement at SX644605. Spurrells Cross is also behind me to the left up the hill (cairns/rows/circle).

Lugbury submitted by theCaptain on 9th Feb 2010. Was passing by Lugbury at the weekend, a damp and misty February day, so I called in for a look to see how it was faring, and was pleasantly surprised.
Most of the growth has been cleared from around the stones, and most of the junk and tree trunks have been cleared from the remains of the mound.
