Country: England (Cornwall)
Visited: Yes on 7th Jun 1998. My rating: Condition 4 Ambience 4 Access 3

The Hurlers Pipers submitted by JimChampion on 24th Aug 2007. View through the 'goalposts' of the Pipers, neatly framing Stowe's Hill in the distance (home of the Cheesewring natural rock feature and the neolithic enclosure of Stowe's Pound). These two stones stand to the west of the Hurlers stone circles. The dung in the foreground is from the ponies that graze the moor.

Long Meg And Her Daughters submitted by nicoladidsbury on 13th Jul 2005. Long Meg in midsummer moonlight. The solstice night is very short, but when you're waiting for the sun to rise, it gives plenty of opportuntiy to experiment with photos! I took this photo around 2am, in the middle of the solstice night. The moon was shining very brightly casting beautiful moonlight shadows, it felt very magical. Old Winchester Hill hillfort
Date Added: 27th Jun 2012
Site Type: Hillfort
Country: England (Hampshire)
Visited: Yes on 6th Sep 2009. My rating: Condition 4 Ambience 4 Access 3

Old Winchester Hill hillfort submitted by JimChampion on 19th Feb 2005. February 2005, looking north at the southern aspect of Old Winchester Hill. The recently-ploughed fields show the underlying chalk in this region. In his ebooklet Andy Barrett suggests that the name of this hillfort is a corruption of the Celtic "Gwynchester" meaning White City, after the appearance of the chalky ramparts when it was first constructed.
