Hoar Stone at Duntisbourne submitted by hamish on 13th Jun 2005. This is easy to find, easy to park. Just a short walk over the field. The dead vegetation is the remains of last years nettles.

Mabe Church submitted by hamish on 13th Jun 2005. This remarkable stone is in Mabe church yard. It looks from this angle to be an old monk hunched up. This is a lovely peaceful place overlooking the valley.

Omphalos Stone (Glastonbury Abbey) submitted by hamish on 16th Jun 2005. Here snuggled away out of sight is the omphalmos stone, it would have originally come from the Tor. There are other similar stones or Burrs on the South slopes of the tor.

Three Brothers of Grugith

Three Brothers of Grugith submitted by hamish on 21st Jun 2005. This is a b*&$%£ to find and the legs will never be the same again. Whoever introduced me to megalith hunting beware. The people at the garage looked on me as someone in need of care, and when I was stumbling through the gorse and heather I could see them pointing and laughing. So drive past the garage and take the first right park as soon as possible. Walk slowly down the right hand side of the road 'till you see a vague path ,this leads straight to the chamber. I did it differently and nearly...

Dunadd Fort

Dunadd Fort submitted by hamish on 21st Jun 2005. The Clan Chiefs would bring a pouch of soil from their territory to Dunadd, place this in the foot mark put their foot on top and swear allegience to the High King of Scots with their foot on their native heath. Thus saving the King the bother of travelling round all of them. If you look on the bottom right hand corner you can see the ogham script.

Shealwalls

Shealwalls submitted by hamish on 22nd Jun 2005. I had just been to Park Neuk and thought I would try and find this circle. So drive past Newton of Bamff going towards the B954, there is quite a dip in the road. Park here and go through the gate on the left, follow the footpath to the right. At the top of the slope walk for about 150mtrs keeping a lookout to the right and nestled in the long grass is this little "four poster"?? There aren't any other stones around so hopefully this is it. It is very difficult to locate.

Craigmakerran submitted by hamish on 6th Jul 2005. Go to this site after Blackfaulds, but go there by the main road. The lane from Blackfaulds farm is not for the faint hearted. The stones are at the end of an arm of Blairmuir woods and are just inside the fence. There are lots of stones in the area but only two big ones. I can't find my picture of the other one.

Lugbury submitted by hamish on 11th Jul 2005. I should have come here in the spring ,the vegetation is very thick at this time of the year.Never mind, getting here was adventurous .A very large herd of "cows" tried their best to dissuade me, but as you see Angie,I made it unscathed. This must have been quite a sight when it was intact. The central stone 12ft by 6ft the mound was 219ft long 78ft wide. There was a grave at the eastern end containing the crouched skeleton of a young man. There were 4 chambers at the southeastern side,1 was empty th...

Dry Tree Menhir

Dry Tree Menhir submitted by hamish on 11th Jul 2005. Finding this is not for the fainthearted if the weather is wet, it is very boggy. It is well worth the effort of finding. It was re-erected after WW1. It is 10ft high but was originally 13ft but soldiers nicked 3ft for road building. If you are in the area give it a visit, it is well worth it.
