Log Text: Got there from Sayaxche with a lancha-boat, upstream for about 1 1/2 hour. The stelaes are great, very flamboyant like in Yaxchilan. Some stelae show a late Classic ruler of a mixed Maya/Nahautl decent, the style of decorations being evolving away of classic Mayan style. It is proof of the influx of warrior tribes from the north, in an era which marked the end of both Mayan and Toltec culture in Meso-america.
Very few buildings are excavated.

Log Text: again, take a lancha boat from Sayaxche, for about 1 1/2 hour over the Petexbatun lake and the up then mangrove swamps, plenty of birdlife to see. Small site, few stuctures unearthed, but the trip there and the surroundings make up for that

Log Text: At Raxruja on the main road there is a big sign. Staying at Raxruja does have some hazard, as too many men walk around with 9mm guns on their hips - and they tend to get drunk at night. The area is (was) known as a drug trafficker base. Collectivos go to La Isla regularly, from their its a 20 min walk to the river. Getting across by lancha.

Log Text: The site is so fantastic to visit due to the presence of the lake and the pristine forest around. We saw many more animals then at eg Tikal. It must have been quite an important place, given that like Tikal certain structures are in Teotihuacan style, which would suppose a permanent trade agency or an ambassador to that Mexican culture resided here.

Log Text: very small site, few not very tall structures, looted. A local inhabitant walked us there, a 5 minute walk from the main road. One looters tunnel grants you access to see some monochrome painted stucco, which indicates the site was already established in Pre-Classical time. Mind you, you'll have to go belly in through the bat dung covering the floor...
