Herssum Steingrab

Herssum Steingrab submitted by RunaStera on 30th May 2005. Hunebed #867 in the County of Emsland (EL). It is deep in the forest between sandy dunes. No capstone is in position, but the size and the large stones are impressive. It is 20 m long, in the middle 2 m and at both ends 1.5 m wide. The Entrance is, like at all "Emsländische Kammer"-Graves in the south. The direction of the chamber is West/East with 284°. The oval stonecircle around the chamber is not complete. Easy to find hunebed, because the County of Emsland installed large directions signs...

Wanna Steingrab (11b) submitted by Andreas on 23rd Sep 2009. The reconstructed tomb at Osterwanna: Due to the threat of sinking into the marshy soil the remains of the tomb were transferred to Wanna. Here the chamber was reconstructed. The recent localisation is close to the school at Osterwanna, a few meters north of the Landesstraße (L 118), about 100 meters west of the sports field. The reconstruction shows a "5 yokes-chamber", consisting of 5 capstones, 10 supporting stones at the long sides and 2 further uprights at the narrow sides. There's...

Midlum Henkenstein submitted by Martin_L on 29th Oct 2007. This is the western end of a chambered tomb. One large capstone and 3 orthostats are still in place so it looks like a dolmen, although it is not. There are significant remains of the barrow. It is also referred to as Sprockhoff No. 606. According to his research (Atlas der Megalithgräber Teil 3, Textband Page 3) the tomb originally had a length of 6-8m.

Wittstedt Steingrab

Wittstedt Steingrab submitted by Martin_L on 4th Jul 2012. From the South: Perfectly preserved passage-grave with 4 chamber-capstones and one passage-capstone situated in moorland west of the village Wittstedt. Chamber size is appr. 6,5m x 2m. Clear size will probably be appr. 5m x 1,5m. According to Sprockhoff (Sprockhoff et al., Atlas der Megalithgräber Deutschlands, Teil 3, p. 7) it was discovered comparatively late (around 1910). It was very overgrown by moorland then, so chamber type was hard to determine. Nevertheless Sprockhoff identified 4 ...
