Log Text: Best park by the farm and walk down the track, it's only good for tractors. The AC is quite cheerful, and if you take a look on Google Earth at the fields to the north-east, just over the river, you'll see many unlisted stones. Must have been an important area.

Log Text: If you are approaching from the East track, wear wellies, you have to cross the stream, and the banks are muddy. Dolmen is on the north west side, two uprights and one capstone remaining.

Log Text: Park up alongside the river in the town. It's quite a long but charming walk. Once past the dam look for some log steps going up the bank, which leads you straight to the Allee Couverte. It is on private land but accessible, and the local town is quite proud of it. 7 capstones remaining, it's surprising it isn't visited more.

Coat ar Ran tumulus

Date Added: 10th Jan 2019
Site Type: Chambered Tomb Country: France (Bretagne:Morbihan (56))
Visited: Yes

Log Text: I couldn't find this at all. Was in correct location, but no sign of anything like a tumulus, just flat woodland and fallen trees. There is a low wall around in the wooded area, but only found one small stone.

Dolmen de Berder

Dolmen de Berder submitted by karolus on 24th Jun 2018. Bizarre conversion to a seat with a stunning view of Er Lannic, on a spot on the coast path between the cromlech and Dolmen de Berder sites. I suspect it's on an original dolmen site, not only is there a fair quantity of shaped granite, but is probably the most comfortable and energizing seat I've ever sat on.

Log Text: The whole island has been heavily Christianized, with a chapel and something like over 20 calvaries. While there was evidence of neolithic activity, strangely more near the chapel, the rest seems to have been converted into a motley collection of benches and a bizarre grotto.

Log Text: This is a strange site in that is difficult to work out how many structures were here. While there is the dolmen itself, which appears to just be the chamber remaining under a single capstone with 3 uprights, right behind it at ground level are two huge chunky capstones at ground level. Whether these were dragged and dropped to make some kind of pavement or whether they are the roof of an underground chamber (like Mane Kerioned in the Carnac area-that has two levels) can't be discerned without digging. They are positioned at what would have been the original entrance to the chapel area from the path from town. Also just on the other side of the chapel wall from these, are 3 more capstones, also at ground level. Very peaceful feeling here, in a neighborhood that was very busy with megalithic activity.

Log Text: Can only be visited at low tide. The island is crisscrossed by World War 2 German trenches. Amazingly the engineers actually incorporated the dolmen into the system using it as a three-way junction point, rather than blowing it up as an obvious artillery target. There are elements of a concrete lined gun position running into it, but this is crumbling, and hasn't affected the dolmen at all.

Log Text: This wonderfully preserved angled passage grave is still in the remains of it's mound. Tragically it was burrowed into from the top, and when the passage underneath was reached, it filled it with earth. So using the main entrance today (you have to crawl on your belly) is now useless to reach the main chamber, but it's worth a go as there are quite a few carvings in the corridor. The main chamber is now exposed from the rear though, and access can be gained that way. It is covered by one single massive capstone, and the shaped uprights supporting it are absolutely flush. You literally cannot get a razor blade in there. A lot of care went into building this monument, it's a shame it's passage isn't cleared to show it's full glory.

Log Text: Quite a battered site, and not too easy to find as it is off the main path, but is up against it on the other side of a high hedge. The capstone has worn a natural bowl that fills with water on it's top, probably meaning it's been leaning for quite some time.

Log Text: Despite there only being two uprights remaining of this now unrecognizable site, for some reason it's feeling is amazing. One gets the sense that it was a very much loved site before it's destruction. The sign nearby has info on the many precious objects dug up here.

Log Text: Really cheerful little dolmen, with quite a number of cupmarks on the uprights. The sign nearby marks a panoramic view of sight lines to quite a number of other megalithic remains in the area. This one was one of the better preserved.

Log Text: Really nice vibe here, and a nice surprise as I wasn't expecting too much, despite Aubrey Burl's enthusiasm for the site. This is actually quite an impressively sized arc-bouté allee couverte, and the photos don't show it to its best advantage. It is set in a very long rectangular raised mound, with what is maybe some peristaliths remaining, one or two which might just be menhirs. The whole site is fenced off from the surrounding farmed fields, with parking, sign, and picnic tables. A very nice spot, and very out of the way.

Log Text: Having visited this Dolmen several times and missing it, clearance of the undergrowth in 2017 has revealed the remains of a second Dolmen or AC about 10 meters to the North. There is at least one very large capstone on it's side and a few uprights in place. Leads one to speculate this may have been a multi-chambered Tumulus, and the traces of a large (possibly circular) mound are still existent. There are the remains of a large AC about 100 meters to the South as well as the nearby Chapel De St Jean, and two more Dolmens to the North just across the inlet, as well as the gigantic Le Lizo opposite on the river, in all contributing to what must have been a very important area.

Log Text: Superb setting at the end of the Crozon Peninsula. I counted three capstones in all, and with a bit of maneuvering some of the gorse, the uprights can be made out underneath. The site seems basically very intact, just that chambers have filled with earth and growth. All the stones have the characteristic shape and quartz seams for the region.
