Hobajons Cross
Date Added: 10th Jul 2022
Site Type: Standing Stone (Menhir)
Country: England (Devon)
Visited: Yes on 1st Jan 2020

Hobajons Cross submitted by thecaptain on 6th Aug 2004. Hobajons Cross. This relatively large stone is part of the Butterdon Hill row, and has a simple cross carved into it on the western face. It appears to be a part of the original alignment, adapted for more recent use as a marker for ancient tracks crossing the moor.

Butterdon Hill Barrow
Date Added: 10th Jul 2022
Site Type: Round Barrow(s)
Country: England (Devon)
Visited: Yes on 1st Jul 2021

Butterdon Hill Barrow submitted by thecaptain on 2nd Aug 2004. Butterdon Hill Barrow, Dartmoor, Devon SX657594
Large cairn just beside the Butterdon Hill stone row, at the point where the row changes direction as it drops over the edge of the ridge, and at what is the crest of the hill when seen from the north. It is possible that it was once surrounded by a ring of stones, but this cairn has been much altered over the years.
Viewed here looking towards the northwest

Sourton Tors Stone Circle submitted by TheCaptain on 7th Jun 2004. Sourton Tors Stone Circle, Dartmoor, Devon SX546896
The remains of this stone circle can be seen on the saddle between the slopes of Sourton Tors and Corn Ridge, just to the south of the boundary work separating the two hills.
There are 18 or 19 stones present of the circle, at about 5 or 6 metres spacing, which is a bit more than 30m diameter. Although almost all the stones are flat to the ground, one or two remain slightly sticking up at a very low angle. Each of the stones is between o...

Site Type: Stone Circle
Country: England (Devon)
Visited: Yes on 7th Jul 2022. My rating: Condition 3 Ambience 5 Access 2

Cornridge SE submitted by TheCaptain on 7th Jun 2004. Corn Ridge cairn, Dartmoor, Devon SX551891
The remains of a nice large cairn can be found at the summit of Corn Ridge, about 10m diameter. There is the usual depression in its middle, but otherwise it seems fairly intact, with some quite nice stones forming its outside shape. There is also what seems to be the remains of a circle of stones surrounding it with about 2 metres extra diameter.
