Grabhügel Wehe

Date Added: 16th Mar 2025
Site Type: Round Barrow(s) Country: Germany (North Rhine-Westphalia)
Visited: Yes. My rating: Ambience 2 Access 4

Log Text: Small hill remaining of original bronze age barrow, located on the edge of a small woodland right by the main road and next to an abandoned farm. There is a wooden sign mentioning further barrows that have been lost to destruction as well as findings such as bronze jewellery, a sword and urns. Off-road parking available down a narrow lane nearby. The atmosphere was rather eerie, nonetheless an interesting spot...

There is enough of this tower standing to indicate the method and the superb workmanship involved in it's construction. OS NB 192 413

Ad Gefrin submitted by PaulH on 13th Mar 2003. Yeavering Bell hill fort View of Ad Gefrin at NT926305 At the foot of Yeavering Bell is the site of probably the most impaces dating from the seventh century. The palace, Ad Gefrin, (the place of the goats) was one of the homes of King Edwin of Northumbria, whose name was given to another town - 'Edwin's Burgh', now known as Edinburgh. It was at Ad Gefrin that St Paulinus baptised 3000 Northumbrians in 627 AD, just about twenty-five years prior to St Cuthbert's entry into Melrose Abbey.
