You know, spine tingling standing at this circle in anticipation of the sunrise and when those rays finally come through the stones from low on the horizon and light you up and you feel the warmth of the sun, whilst birds are singing and the cuckoo in the distance is calling and life is awakening for the longest day of the year it TRULY is a magical experience and the second time in 3 years I have had the good fortune of the weather being on my side...

Site Type: Broch or Nuraghe
Country: Scotland (Isle of Lewis)
Visited: Yes on 1st Jan 0000

Dun Carloway submitted by swatson on 28th Aug 2004. This impressive Broch is near Carloway in the west of the Island of Lewis. Sadly time did not permit detailed exploration but that's something to look forward to at a later date. There is enough of this tower standing to indicate the method and the superb workmanship involved in it's construction.

Avebury
Date Added: 17th Mar 2024
Site Type: Stone Circle
Country: England (Wiltshire)
Visited: Yes

Avebury submitted by creators on 27th May 2005. I have been reluctant to submit this picture because it is a composite, taken on the same day in the same place but still a composite. It is AngieLake's exquisitely named 'receptors' hands receiving the moon and a picture I love.
So a composite done tenderly of Avebury that is at my very heart.
