Dolmen de Peyrelevade (Paussac) submitted by thecaptain on 7th Dec 2005. The dolmen consists of a strangely layered dark reddish brown/black capstone sitting on 5 limestone supports about 2 metres off the ground.

I had no idea what this is meant to be and indeed no idea whether this is the proper megalithic remains! Later I find out that this is indeed the remains of a megalithic burial chamber (dolmen a bit incorrect perhaps). And that there is also a menhir nearby.

Log Text: It would be truer to say we tried to visit this site. We did find someone who knew of its existence but the access is over a private bridge to the island. A boat might be useful. Not possible to get close enough on either side of the river to take a picture.

Log Text: It is right on the edge of a small wood surrounded by vines. You either have to approach through a vineyard from the North of the stone or along tracks from the South between vineyards. It is not a very big stone but it is covered on the wood side with sets of parallel lines. Rock Art?
