Dolmen de la Pierre-Pèze submitted by thecaptain on 1st Dec 2005. La Pierre-Pèze is positioned in a lovely woodland glade and despite the noise of the busy road and the TGV trains rushing (quietly) by, the place is full of birdsong and a nice place to spend some time.

Log Text: It is an interesting site. Once you have paid for entrance you have access to the museum and the experimental archaeology and then the site leads on into the Bougon Tumuli which are all fairly close together in one area.

Dolmen de la Garenne (La Mothe)
Date Added: 1st Oct 2018
Site Type: Burial Chamber or Dolmen
Country: France (Poitou:Deux-Sèvres (79))
Visited: Yes on 1st Sep 2018

Dolmen de la Garenne (La Mothe) submitted by thecaptain on 27th Jul 2008. The dolmen is in a clearing in the woods, and still mostly within its mound. I cannot be totally sure what this is the remains of, whether it is one chamber with a long and angled passage, or more likely two chambers with entry passageways.

Log Text: Failed to find this dolmen but the point on the road closest to these coordinates where the sat nav told us we had reached our destination was a large stone the top of which had been broken off to reveal an amonite. Could this be a menhir?

Log Text: Google says this is Dolman des Amoureux. There is a woodland site just above that was closed when we were there but maybe would supply a cup of tea in season.
Dolmen de Beaumont
Date Added: 1st Oct 2018
Site Type: Burial Chamber or Dolmen
Country: France (Poitou:Vienne (86))
Visited: Yes on 1st Sep 2018

Dolmen de Beaumont submitted by oldman on 1st Oct 2018. Site in Poitou:Vienne (86) France The dolmen could be hidden in here?
(View photo, vote or add a comment)
Log Text: No one in the village had heard of a dolmen nearby and I can only assume that the coordinates aren't correct. Nothing visible nearby. Farmer let us look in his area and beyond his land is a disused railway which is very overgrown so could hide anything.

Log Text: Great place. Windy hill. Vast capstone. Maybe it was once supported on other of the surrounding stones or maybe this is the way it was constructed with the angled stone. Very impressive.

Cairn Catto
Date Added: 4th Jul 2019
Site Type: Cairn
Country: Scotland (Aberdeenshire)
Visited: Yes on 29th Jun 2019. My rating: Condition 3 Ambience 3 Access 3

Cairn Catto submitted by oldman on 4th Jul 2019. This is the 3rd of 3 pictures taken from the left end to the right end of the cairn.

Log Text: The cairn is in a field of cows surrounded by double barbed wire fences. It is only possible to get to the first fence and take pictures from there. At least half of the height of the cairn is hidden by gorse so it is only possible to see the stones forming the top of the cairn.
Gray Hill circle

Site Type: Stone Circle
Country: Wales (Monmouthshire)
Visited: Yes on 24th Nov 2018

Gray Hill circle submitted by sem on 6th May 2013. Vandalism!
The idiot who sprayed this hand-print probably thought he was being very clever and somehow "enhancing" the work of his ancestors. The sane and sensible among us will view it for what it is, graffiti.
This has been reported to the relevant archaeo trust. Unfortunately I doubt the culprit will be found..... unless anyone knows of someone bragging on a social network site????

Log Text: Well I am not an archaeologist but isn't this a burial chamber? It is not the least bit circular but formed of two rows of stones down the sides with others at the ends.

Log Text: We thought at first that we would not be able to get to view the fort as there is no path indicated on the OS map and the Great House seems to be very private. However when we parked nearby we found that there is actually a marked (in Welsh) footpath which passes by two sides of the fort. There is a high hedge along most of the path but one access point into the area of the set of four ditches and mounds. The main area of the fort is not accessible and used for grazing cows. The rings are however quite impressive.
