Buzza Hill
Date Added: 14th Mar 2011
Site Type: Burial Chamber or Dolmen
Country: England (Isles of Scilly)
Visited: Yes on 17th Oct 2006

Buzza Hill submitted by paulcall on 17th Oct 2006. There are two pairs of stones facing the chamber, one pair in the foreground and one pair to the left. They seem rather far away to be part of the original structure.

Site Type: Burial Chamber or Dolmen
Country: England (Isles of Scilly)
Visited: Yes on 17th Oct 2006

Innisidgen Lower submitted by paulcall on 17th Oct 2006. One of my favourite views on Scilly, the north of St Mary's looking towards St Martin's. The fact that there are two burial chambers here is an added bonus.

Normandy Down submitted by paulcall on 31st Oct 2006. A view of the westerly entrance grave looking east. Centre right is the brown mound of the central tomb and centre left the easterly tomb. The area around the graves had recently been cleared of bracken and scrub at the time of my visit.

White Island
Date Added: 14th Mar 2011
Site Type: Chambered Cairn
Country: England (Isles of Scilly)
Visited: Yes on 1st Dec 2006

White Island submitted by paulcall on 1st Dec 2006. A view of White island from Top Rock Carn on St Martins, showing the hazardous isthmus between the two. Very low tides would be needed to get on and off the island to give enough to time to see the monuments which are mainly at the far end.

Kittern Hill submitted by paulcall on 12th Oct 2007. This is a view of Kittern Hill on the north side of Gugh, from the neighbouring island of St Agnes. The cairns and entrance graves are situated along the ridge , and Obadiah's Barrow can just be seen as the grey stones below the horizon on the far right of the picture.

Carn of Works
Date Added: 14th Mar 2011
Site Type: Chambered Tomb
Country: England (Isles of Scilly)
Visited: Yes on 14th Oct 2007

Carn of Works submitted by paulcall on 14th Oct 2007. I had a terrible job finding this, and only recognised it when I came across the L-shaped combination of stones illustrated in a plan of the site in Jeanette Ratcliffe's excellent book 'Scilly's Archeological Heritage.' The view towards the island of St Mary's is marvellous (but then so are most of the views on Scilly!).

Works Carn, Bryher
Date Added: 14th Mar 2011
Site Type: Chambered Cairn
Country: England (Isles of Scilly)
Visited: Yes on 22nd Oct 2007

Works Carn, Bryher submitted by paulcall on 22nd Oct 2007. This is a view of the chamber from above, from the promontary of Works Carn itself. It is quite difficult to get access this site owing to high growth of gorse, brambles and bracken.
The circular kerb around the grave is almost complete, and can be seen particularly well on the right of the picture. Two of five capstones are still in place.

Samson Hill, Bryher
Date Added: 14th Mar 2011
Site Type: Chambered Tomb
Country: England (Isles of Scilly)
Visited: Yes on 22nd Oct 2007

Samson Hill, Bryher submitted by paulcall on 22nd Oct 2007. This is the southern of the two kerbed platform cairns on the east side of Samson Hill (GPS SV8793414245).
It is not as spectacular as the northern cairn, previously photographed and submitted by Thorgrim, as it is built into the natural promontary to a greater extent, and is therefore not as obvious. This photo shows the kerbstones on the centre-right and in the foreground, with a large natural rock centre-left.

Gweal Hill, Bryher
Date Added: 14th Mar 2011
Site Type: Chambered Tomb
Country: England (Isles of Scilly)
Visited: Yes on 22nd Oct 2007

Gweal Hill, Bryher submitted by paulcall on 22nd Oct 2007. This view looks south over the southwestern cairn of the three on Gweal Hill.
The central cist can be seen centre-left, and there are two rings of kerbs both of which can just be seen on this photo, although the whole mound is now greatly weathered by its position on the most westernmost point of the inhabited islands on Scilly.
