Bosta Beach submitted by SandyG on 14th Jan 2015. Close up of midden deposits associated with the settlement. Shellfish formed an important element of their diet (31st August 2014). This photograph is not going to win any prizes but how often do you get the chance to see the remains of a two and half thousand year old meal?

Dun Carloway
Date Added: 29th Jun 2017
Site Type: Broch or Nuraghe
Country: Scotland (Isle of Lewis)
Visited: Yes on 28th Jun 2017. My rating: Condition 4 Ambience 4 Access 4

Dun Carloway submitted by swatson on 28th Aug 2004. This impressive Broch is near Carloway in the west of the Island of Lewis. Sadly time did not permit detailed exploration but that's something to look forward to at a later date. There is enough of this tower standing to indicate the method and the superb workmanship involved in it's construction.

Cailleach na Mointeach Kerbed Cairn
Date Added: 23rd Jun 2017
Site Type: Cairn
Country: Scotland (Isle of Lewis)
Visited: Would like to visit

Cailleach na Mointeach Kerbed Cairn submitted by Aluta on 14th Sep 2006. Cairn on one of the hills that make up the 'knees' of the Old Lady of the Mountains or Sleeping Goddess visible from the Stone Circle at Callanish.
Found by Ian McHardy who says "'S1' is the main cairn which the company Headland Archaeology had called a "shepherds cairn with base" - a bizarre interpretation for a professional outfit to make, especially given the obvious kerb and absolutly useless and labour intensive nature of a 5m by 1m cairn upon a rounded hill top to a shepherd."
