Avebury submitted by creators on 27th May 2005. I have been reluctant to submit this picture because it is a composite, taken on the same day in the same place but still a composite. It is AngieLake's exquisitely named 'receptors' hands receiving the moon and a picture I love.
So a composite done tenderly of Avebury that is at my very heart.

Arbor Low 2 submitted by PaulM on 1st Sep 2001. Arbor Low II Earthworks, Derbyshire GR: SK157633
A second possible henge site, known as Arbor Low II lies to the north-west of Gib Hill. Consisting of a curved ditch, some archaeologists believe it may be an unfinished henge, but others consider it is probably nothing more than a ditch created as a result of stone quarrying in the area.

Andle Stone (Stanton Moor) submitted by PaulM on 1st Sep 2001. The Andle Stone, near Doll Tor Stone Circle, Stanton Moor, Derbyshire GR: SK241630
The Andle Stone or Oundle Stone is a dominating outcrop of sandstone, standing alone in the middle of a field, surrounded by a dry-stone wall and a mass of rhododendrons. Approximately 5m high by 4.5m wide, the rock is supposedly carved with ancient cupmarks on the, modern graffiti, a relatively recent inscription and climbing holes on the sides.

Alexander Keiller Museum
Date Added: 24th Jan 2025
Site Type: Museum
Country: England (Wiltshire)
Visited: Yes on 10th Nov 2024. My rating: Condition 5 Ambience 5 Access 5

Alexander Keiller Museum submitted by JimChampion on 31st Dec 2008. The door to the Barn Gallery at Avebury. The barn is kept very cool in order to preserve the structure of the 17th century building, so it only houses a few archaeological exhibits - according to the NT leaflet it 'tells the story of the landscape through a fully interactive display'. Most of the archaeology collection is in the nearby Stables Gallery. Both are covered by the same admission ticket, unless you are a member of the National Trust (in which case both galleries are free).
