Grasmere Cup-Marked Rocks
Date Added: 30th Dec 2024
Site Type: Rock Art
Country: England (Cumbria)
Visited: Yes on 30th Dec 2024. My rating: Condition 3 Ambience 4 Access 5

Grasmere Cup-Marked Rocks submitted by Anne T on 2nd Jun 2014. Photograph taken along the top of the outcrop, looking back towards the car park pay machines, showing groupings of cup marks. Doubtless there are other sets of marks, but there was much grass and mossy growth at this time of year. Well worth a visit, being so close to the car park and the centre of Grasmere itself.

Country: England (Cumbria)
Visited: Yes on 30th Dec 2024. My rating: Condition 3 Ambience 5 Access 4

Mayburgh submitted by wildtalents on 15th May 2024. The henge banks at Mayburgh were built up mainly using cobbles like those surrounding the one remaining megalith at the site. It's a really large structure and may have been a meeting point for many hundreds of people at a time. These days mainly sheep throng the henge. Image from spring 2023.

King Arthur's Round Table submitted by h_fenton on 1st Oct 2010. King Arthur's Round Table.
I tried to fly the kite here but the wind was too inconsistent to safely get the camera high enough. Here instead of a kite I used a carp fishing pole, with a camera attachment on the end to lift my camera higher (6-7 metres).

Site Type: Cave or Rock Shelter
Country: England (Derbyshire)
Visited: Yes on 23rd Dec 2024. My rating: Condition 3 Ambience 3 Access 1

One Ash Shelter submitted by NeanderthalGene on 19th Jul 2019. One Ash Shelter, Lathkill Dale. Extremely hard to find. From beneath the crag on the path in the bottom of the valley, cross the dry river bed and wall line. Head diagonally right to the RH end of the crag. Ascend past a hawthorn bush, then cut back left between the lower and upper crag lines. Take a faint path about 35m into the trees, the rock shelter appears directly above you. Still hard to see from below. Correct GPS coordinates: 53.18726, -1.74314

Log Text: Approached from the bottom of the hill, found previous instructions on how to find useful. Absolutely knackered when I found it. If the Mrs wasn't waiting at the bottom for me perhaps I'd have had time to catch my breath and peek my head further inside, but since I was in a rush I count just finding the place as catharsis enough.

Stanton Moor Cairn T25 submitted by shaqmeister on 12th Aug 2018. View of the excavated cairn T25 on Stanton Moor, looking roughly NE. Here, the shadows from the low sun emphasise the trenching on the inside and outside of the near circular curb—a feature of the Heathcotes’ method of excavation, rather than of the cairn itself.
