Godre'r Garn Las Stone
Date Added: 11th Jun 2012
Site Type: Standing Stones
Country: Wales (Powys)
Visited: Yes on 12th Mar 2005

Godre'r Garn Las Stone submitted by sem on 12th Mar 2005. This site is plainly visible on the horizon from the Nant Tarw circles despite the stone being recumbent. I believe it forms part of a processional way to Fan Brycheiniog in the background.

Site Type: Standing Stones
Country: Wales (Powys)
Visited: Yes on 12th Mar 2005

Tyle Bychan submitted by sem on 12th Mar 2005. Not very picturesque and like many stones ruined by the agriculture going on around them. However it does have one saving grace - Fan Brycheiniog is visible from here.

Rhyd Wen Fach
Date Added: 11th Jun 2012
Site Type: Stone Circle
Country: Wales (Powys)
Visited: Yes on 5th May 2005

Rhyd Wen Fach submitted by sem on 5th May 2005. This site is listed in RCHAM as both a circle and a setting. The circle needs a bit of imagination to see with the eye, never mind with a camera.

Mynydd Myddfai Stones submitted by sem on 21st May 2005. This is the stone standing nearest the track. However it cannot be seen from there so a GPS or a good deal of luck is required to find it.

Chun Quoit
Date Added: 11th Jun 2012
Site Type: Chambered Cairn
Country: England (Cornwall)
Visited: Yes on 16th Jun 2005

Chun Quoit submitted by sem on 16th Jun 2005. The illusion.
When approached from the B3318, Chun Quoit is seen in the distance and seems enormous on the horizon. It disappears as you walk into a hollow, BUT... it re-appears
and seems to rise from the earth, dominating your field of vision as you near it.
Not bad for a stone placed on a few other stones eh?

Site Type: Portal Tomb
Country: England (Cornwall)
Visited: Yes on 29th Jun 2005

Zennor Quoit submitted by sem on 29th Jun 2005. An imposing structure anyway, from the minor road to the west Zennor Quoit is silouhetted perfectly against the skyline.

Stannon circle
Date Added: 11th Jun 2012
Site Type: Stone Circle
Country: England (Cornwall)
Visited: Yes on 29th Jun 2005

Stannon circle submitted by sem on 29th Jun 2005. Stannon Circle is only one of many circles and monuments in this area, all of which seem to be focussed on Little Rough Tor (seen in the background). This siting of monuments around peaks is very common in Cornwall and Wales.

Visited: Yes on 20th Oct 2005

Olous submitted by sem on 20th Oct 2005. Looking inside the harbour towards the now submerged harbour wall. On the seabed can be seen a line of stones set into the floor. Whether these were once above sea level or were part of the harbour floor I do not know.

Bwlch y Clawdd
Date Added: 11th Jun 2012
Site Type: Modern Stone Circle etc
Country: Wales (West Glamorgan)
Visited: Yes on 22nd Nov 2005

Bwlch y Clawdd submitted by sem on 22nd Nov 2005. I can find no reference to this stone and it looks modern. However there is an abundance of Bronze Age and earlier sites in the immediate area, but all are hard to find due to the terrain and recent conifer forestry.
It appears to be made of old red sandstone and the weathering on it is beautiful.
It is visible from the nearby viewpoint.

Carreg Siglio
Date Added: 11th Jun 2012
Site Type: Modern Stone Circle etc
Country: Wales (South Glamorgan)
Visited: Yes on 31st Dec 2005

Carreg Siglio submitted by sem on 31st Dec 2005. This site bears a striking resemblence to William Stukely's engraving of Avebury, comprising a circle with two "horns" leading from it.
The rocking stone was used as a pulpit by Dr William Price to preach his own brand of Druidism. He later found fame when charged with heresy for attempting to cremate his son Iesi Grist (Jesus Christ) in a tin of paraffin.

Maen Llia
Date Added: 11th Jun 2012
Site Type: Standing Stone (Menhir)
Country: Wales (Powys)
Visited: Yes on 26th Feb 2006

Maen Llia submitted by sem on 26th Feb 2006. When viewed from the bottoom of the Llia Valley, Maen Lia appears at the lowest point of the arc of the horizon (just to the right of the road). In fact it is not on the head of the valley but a few hundred yards down from it on a low plateau, an illusion that is a tribute to the skill and artistry of it's erectors.

Maen Madoc

Site Type: Standing Stone (Menhir)
Country: Wales (Powys)
Visited: Yes on 26th Feb 2006

Maen Madoc submitted by sem on 26th Feb 2006. Maen Madoc. It is possible that before the planting of the conifer forest this stone was intervisible with Maen Llia, about one and a half miles away. If so this is evidence that it predates Roman times.
