Trecastle Mountain ENE submitted by sem on 28th Feb 2005. The ENE circle looking from the recumbent outlying stones. There are a number of these to the East of the circles, suggesting a processional route.

Trecastle Mountain WSW submitted by sem on 28th Feb 2005. Fan Brycheiniog in her winter linen. The wsw circle looking towards the sacred peak of Fan Brycheiniog. Views like this make me think that we of this time are missing out on something.

Godre'r Garn Las Stone

Godre'r Garn Las Stone submitted by sem on 12th Mar 2005. This site is plainly visible on the horizon from the Nant Tarw circles despite the stone being recumbent. I believe it forms part of a processional way to Fan Brycheiniog in the background.

Tyle Bychan submitted by sem on 12th Mar 2005. Not very picturesque and like many stones ruined by the agriculture going on around them. However it does have one saving grace - Fan Brycheiniog is visible from here.

Rhyd Wen Fach submitted by sem on 5th May 2005. This site is listed in RCHAM as both a circle and a setting. The circle needs a bit of imagination to see with the eye, never mind with a camera. SN 8225 2306 (by my GPS)

Maen Llia

Site Type: Standing Stone (Menhir) Country: Wales (Powys)
Visited: Yes on 26th Feb 2006

Maen Llia

Maen Llia submitted by sem on 26th Feb 2006. When viewed from the bottoom of the Llia Valley, Maen Lia appears at the lowest point of the arc of the horizon (just to the right of the road). In fact it is not on the head of the valley but a few hundred yards down from it on a low plateau, an illusion that is a tribute to the skill and artistry of it's erectors.

Maen Madoc submitted by sem on 26th Feb 2006. Maen Madoc. It is possible that before the planting of the conifer forest this stone was intervisible with Maen Llia, about one and a half miles away. If so this is evidence that it predates Roman times.

Nant Tarw WNW submitted by sem on 13th Jan 2008. Situated at SN80702467 this stone appears to be a Winter Solstice sunset marker. The circle is about 1ml away (to the right of the stream above my wife's white hat). Despite the distance it is perfectly visible from the circle.

Saith Maen SE

Saith Maen SE submitted by sem on 24th Mar 2008. In between hail storms. This is certainly one of the most unusual sites I've visited as the stones are set on a bare rock surface. The walk there is a nightmare. Only just over a mile but across scree slopes, bogs and dense, tussocky grass.

Site Type: Cairn Country: Wales (Powys)
Visited: Yes on 7th Jan 2009

The Nipple

The Nipple submitted by sem on 7th Jan 2009. From the photo you can see why we gave this cairn it's name. Astoundingly, it is right next to a walkers path but is not shown on OS maps nor mentioned in the RCAHMW database. That's the problem with archaeologists, they can't tell a nipple when they see one and they think cairns are just a pile of old stones.

Llorfa submitted by sem on 8th Aug 2009. Doesn't look much... but finding a small circle like this (8 stones lie beneath grass height and possibly more below the peat) after a long walk, make the day worth while.
