Maen Llwyd, St Ishmail submitted by sem on 28th Jun 2012. It has been suggested that a bucket and spade bought in the nearby tourist shops, would be a good investment for any would-be archaeologist at this site.

Sythfaen (Carmarthenshire) submitted by sem on 18th Jan 2012. Sythfaen
Standing by the road-side and dwarfed by a modern pole, Sythfaen looks forlorn. Nearly strangled by undergrowth and not even afforded the dignity of being used as a gate-post, how are the mighty fallen.

Barry Island Cairns

Site Type: Cairn
Country: Wales (Mid Glamorgan)
Visited: Yes on 15th Mar 2011

Barry Island Cairns submitted by sem on 15th Mar 2011. Only the southernmost (rh of the picture) of the five cairns really stands out and this is because of a mound of mortar was placed on top erect a flagpole.
Originally this would have been seen from a great distance and would have been a marvellous "signpost" for Bronze Age seafarers.

If it were not for the wall these barrows would merge into the background. Even with it there, they only appear as green lumps against it's grey stones.

Heol y Mynydd Round Barrow submitted by sem on 5th Nov 2012. Barely visible
This barrow seems to be playing hide-and-seek. It is centre left behind the square rock. At 0.3m high, it is not the most imposing of ancient monuments.

It was with a delicious taste of irony that I discovered the current occupants of the site of (destroyed) Simondston Cairn produce among other things... standing stones!
