Chun Quoit
Date Added: 11th Jun 2012
Site Type: Chambered Cairn
Country: England (Cornwall)
Visited: Yes on 16th Jun 2005

Chun Quoit submitted by sem on 16th Jun 2005. The illusion.
When approached from the B3318, Chun Quoit is seen in the distance and seems enormous on the horizon. It disappears as you walk into a hollow, BUT... it re-appears
and seems to rise from the earth, dominating your field of vision as you near it.
Not bad for a stone placed on a few other stones eh?

Stannon circle submitted by sem on 29th Jun 2005. Stannon Circle is only one of many circles and monuments in this area, all of which seem to be focussed on Little Rough Tor (seen in the background). This siting of monuments around peaks is very common in Cornwall and Wales.

King Arthur's Cave
Date Added: 11th Jun 2012
Site Type: Cave or Rock Shelter
Country: England (Herefordshire)
Visited: Yes on 23rd Aug 2006

King Arthur's Cave submitted by sem on 23rd Aug 2006.
This cave was inhabited from the Upper Palaeolithic to the Bronze Age, a period of over 50,000 years. Finds here include bone, flint and "imported" pebbles. Caves nearby have also yielded Beaker and Roman pottery, but as this cave was also used to extract iron in the 18th and 19th centuries much archaeological evidence has been destroyed.

Joanie Howe Cairn is behind Robin How and does not become visible until you reach the latter. Joanie How and the unnamed cairn then form another pair on the horizon.
This pairing of cairns is very similar to the arrangements found in South Wales.
