Cae'r-hen-Eglwys
Date Added: 11th Jun 2012
Site Type: Standing Stones
Country: Wales (West Glamorgan)
Visited: Yes on 15th Feb 2004

Cae'r-hen-Eglwys submitted by sem on 15th Feb 2004. The "Fort of the Old Church", as the name translates, lies near Laleston, South Wales. OS maps describe it as the site of the church of St Cewydd who lived c490AD. However the stones look older and the name may imply that people were aware of it's pagan past. SS875809

Carn Llechart Cairn Circle submitted by sem on 15th Aug 2004. Opinion seems to be divided as to whether this is a stone circle with a cist burial in the centre or the remains of a ring cairn.

Bwlch y Clawdd
Date Added: 11th Jun 2012
Site Type: Modern Stone Circle etc
Country: Wales (West Glamorgan)
Visited: Yes on 22nd Nov 2005

Bwlch y Clawdd submitted by sem on 22nd Nov 2005. I can find no reference to this stone and it looks modern. However there is an abundance of Bronze Age and earlier sites in the immediate area, but all are hard to find due to the terrain and recent conifer forestry.
It appears to be made of old red sandstone and the weathering on it is beautiful.
It is visible from the nearby viewpoint.

Carn Llechart Megalithic Complex
Date Added: 11th Jun 2012
Site Type: Modern Stone Circle etc
Country: Wales (West Glamorgan)
Visited: Yes on 10th Nov 2007

Carn Llechart Megalithic Complex submitted by sem on 10th Nov 2007. Site 1: View from Carn Llechart
Map ref SN69670627
Taken from the burial chamber at Carn Llechart, something can be seen in the centre of the picture just below the skyline. Was this a stone or maybe just a cattle feeder ? Even a pair of binoculars failed to decipher the puzzle.
Returning home, forays on the Internet showed nothing of archaeological value in this area and, until returning a few years later, I had no answer.

Visited: Yes on 24th Apr 2008

Nicholaston Long Cairn submitted by sem on 24th Apr 2008. Unfortunately this tomb is on open heath used for grazing cattle, so the ground is covered in straw and cow***t.
Very little remains to be seen.

Llanmadoc Hill Great Cairn submitted by sem on 24th Apr 2008. The climb up Llanmadoc hill is hard going, but the view from the summit of the North Gower coast is amazing.
There are many other cairns up here but they are all but destroyed.

Carn Caca Cairn

Site Type: Ring Cairn
Country: Wales (West Glamorgan)
Visited: Yes on 30th Apr 2008

Carn Caca Cairn submitted by sem on 30th Apr 2008. Caca cairn seems intact but is difficult to find (and photograph) in the vegetation. The "lumps" in the background are the result of medieval quarrying and the flat stone roughly marks the robbed cist.

The cross originally stood outside the the church and was destroyed when the church tower fell down. The cost of restoration was £1800 pounds.
It has been suggested that it dates from C7 but more realistically from 9/10 Cent.

To the NE would be a good view of the Brecon Beacons, if it wasn't blocked by the trees.
