Log Text: The one remaining mound is on private property. There is a Victorian mansion on top. Closest view from a vehicle is a pull-off on Rolling Fork Rd, about 800 ft from the site. Good visibility.

Arcola Mounds

Arcola Mounds

Arcola Mounds submitted by stonetracker on 4th Feb 2023. Mound C in center of image, with a borrow pit nearby. Mound B on left and Mound A on right partially blocked from view.

Log Text: All mounds are on private property. There is a pull-off on Old Rte 61 next to a private field rd (no legal access on any of the field roads) that allows a limited view of Mound C (in a grove of trees) and a very small part of Mound B to its south. But the largest Mound A is blocked from this vantage point. It is possible to get a better view of Mound B farther down the road by walking, but no safe place to park.

Kings Crossing Mounds

Date Added: 4th Feb 2023
Site Type: Artificial Mound Country: United States (The South)
Visited: Yes on 1st Oct 2022. My rating: Ambience 2

Kings Crossing Mounds

Kings Crossing Mounds submitted by stonetracker on 4th Feb 2023. Artist's conception of the site. Mound A is on the right.
(View photo, vote or add a comment)

Log Text: Attempted to visit this site, but Mound A is apparently on private property behind some houses. Protective neighborhood dogs dissuaded me from making more of an effort. Mound C may be more accessible behind an abandoned church but I didn't have time to try. The area is very overgrown and winter may be a better time to go there.

Lake George Mounds

Log Text: All mounds are on private property, but Mounds A and B are clearly visible no more than a few 100 ft away from the car pull-off area on Satartia Rd. Mound A is right next to the road and can be viewed at close range via a short walk.

Foxborough Perched Boulder (6)

Foxborough Perched Boulder (6) submitted by stonetracker on 26th Jan 2023. Large boulder sitting on one prop stone. Could be an accident of nature except that the prop appears to have been inserted long after the boulder settled there.

Log Text: Site S on published map. Best accessed from the Thurston St parking lot. About 1/4 mile down a side trail that runs east from Megley Trail. Site is right next to the trail on the right.

Foxborough Perched Boulder (2)

Foxborough Perched Boulder (2) submitted by stonetracker on 12th Jan 2023. Propped boulder on prominent ledge. Possibly just a geological/glacial feature but to.my eyes the props look deliberately placed.

(View photo, vote or add a comment)

Log Text: A number of ways to access, but the shortest way is from Thurston St. Take Megley trail north for 1/2 to 3/4 mile then take a side trail on right down a steep slope for 100-200 yds. Site is 100 ft east bushwhack in the woods and not easy to spot from side trail due to overgrowth. But site itself is clear of trees.

Log Text: Another visit. No changes, but added a photo or two. I confirmed that this is a short 100 ft bushwhack north from the Megley Trail, which you can see from the site during winter.

An interesting ancillary site very close to the propped boulder, not on published map. See photo.

Foxborough Prayer Seat (11)

Date Added: 30th Jan 2023

Foxborough Prayer Seat (11)

Foxborough Prayer Seat (11) submitted by stonetracker on 30th Jan 2023. Site Z on published map.
(View photo, vote or add a comment)

Log Text: Site Z on the published map. Best way to get to this site is to park at the High Rock Road summit and hike down High Rock Rd. Take a left onto Messenger Rd and walk about 100-200 yds north past the waterhole to a height-of-land. The site is about a 100 ft bushwhack left (west) into the woods. Despite what the published map says, it is not easy to see from Messenger Rd due to brush, so a GPS device is helpful.

Foxborough Standing Stone (2)

Date Added: 31st Jan 2023
Site Type: Marker Stone Country: United States
Visited: Yes on 1st Jan 2023. My rating: Condition 4 Ambience 3 Access 2

Foxborough Standing Stone (5

Foxborough Standing Stone (5 submitted by stonetracker on 21st Jan 2023. Site Q on published map. This standing stone was originally twice as tall but the top half broke off sometime between 2003 and 2017. The broken half is lying on the ground in the foreground. The buttress stones are still there. Clearly manmade.

Log Text: An update on access. This site is accessed from a trail north from Megley, opposite the Dolmen site trailhead. Climb up trail 100 yds or so onto open ledges. Just after the ledges, turn right and bushwhack into the woods about 75 ft. Site is very difficult to spot from trail as it is surrounded by trees; GPS is helpful.

Foxborough Dolmen submitted by stonetracker on 1st Feb 2023. Overall view of dolmen or pedestaled slab, if you will. One of the small support stones is on the left.
(View photo, vote or add a comment)

Log Text: Site is equidistant from either the High Rock or Thurston St lots. From Thurston St, take Megley Trail about 3/4 of a mile. After you pass the side trail to Foxborough Standing Stone (2), take the next side trail for 50 ft east to the site which is on a flat ledge.

Foxborough Prayer Seat (7)

Date Added: 1st Feb 2023
Site Type: Cairn Country: United States
Visited: Yes on 1st Jan 2023. My rating: Condition 3 Ambience 3 Access 2

Foxborough Prayer Seat (7)

Foxborough Prayer Seat (7) submitted by stonetracker on 23rd Jan 2023. Took some effort to find, as it is in the bushes. The U-shaped enclosure, which could be a prayer seat, has settled a bit into the topsoil.

Log Text: Revisited. No change but added a photo. This site is located in difficult terrain, as it is deep in a valley with steep sides and no direct trail. If you approach from the south, be prepared to cross a wetland.
