Log Text: A much ruined trench grave about 10 metres long and 2 metres wide with an orientation of 292° looking down the hill can be found dug into the hillside in a field of crops along a lane at the top of a ridge about 400 metres south from the little lane which climbs eastwards from the village. Although marked on my ign map there are no signs or any other items to suggest its presence. Parking is available at the junction of the lane and track.

Site Type: Chambered Cairn
Country: France (Poitou:Vienne (86))
Visited: Saw from a distance on 30th Aug 2005
Log Text: On the village map, about half a kilometre to the southeast of the dolmen, and to the northeast of the road to Lussac-les-Chateaux. I had a walk towards this after getting the van partly sorted, but couldn’t find anything definite. There was however, a mound in a field which has growth on it, which was in the right sort of place. Pity I couldn't get to it and have a proper look, and by now its started to get dark.

Log Text: Just outside the village of Verrières, to the south by the road to Lussac-les-Chateaux, are the remains of this dolmen, which can be found round the back of some houses at the top of the valley. Its not much more than a large slab of rock sitting on the ground these days, which is the capstone which measures 4 metres by 3 metres, with a few bits of crumbled rock underneath. There are no signs of any obvious support stones.
When I got back to my van after visiting this, the antitheft electronics would not turn off, and so nothing would start. I checked to see if anything obvious was loose, but could find nothing. I checked the other keys and that didn't help. I asked a passing man in a pickup truck if he could help, and he got a bloke from a garage out to help me. He had a look, but couldn't really do anything till tomorrow, when he could get the van to the garage with the necessary electronics gear. We pushed the van down into a little side lane where I could stay overnight, and he promised that he or someone else from the garage who could speak some English would be back in the morning about 8:30. This is just what I always dreaded would happen.

Vaon dolmen submitted by TheCaptain on 30th Jul 2013. The Dolmen de Vaon is a fairly complete Angevin dolmen with a main chamber fronted at the east end by its entrance porch. The two capstones of the main chamber are still in place, although the roofstone of the entrance has fallen.

Log Text: This nice dolmen can be found about a kilometre southeast of the village of Trois-Moutiers, and is easy to find because it is signposted. It is about a 300 metre walk from where you can park near to a barn. It is a fairly complete Angevin dolmen with a 5m by 2.5m main chamber fronted at the east end by a 2.5 by 1.5 metre entrance porch. The two capstones of the main chamber are still in place, although the roofstone of the entrance has fallen. Nicely shaded by a large tree, there was a wasp nest inside when I was here, which distracted slightly from my visit.

This one is 2.50 metres tall.

Log Text: The Vaissière menhirs consist of more than forty menhirs, mostly found along the ridge running south from the D.35 road. The tallest of these menhirs is 5 metres in height. Some of these menhirs stand up really proudly against the skyline as you drive along. I would love to walk out among them, but not in this horrible stormy weather. There is much thunder, rain and lightning all around, with no signs of it clearing.

It is a small triangular stone, only about 1.3 metres tall, and 0.8 metres wide at the base. Upper Erme Row
Date Added: 18th Sep 2010
Site Type: Stone Row / Alignment
Country: England (Devon)
Visited: Yes on 23rd Aug 2006
Upper Erme Row submitted by thecaptain on 23rd Aug 2006. At the southern end, the row starts at the 16 metre diameter Kiss-in-the-Ring stone circle.
From here the row runs northwards, with the stones generally about half a metre tall above the modern turf, and spaced at intervals of about 1.5 to 2 metres. The grass around these stones is in July very long, and many of the stones are very difficult to see, but the path of the row is clearly seen by the darker shade of the grass surrounding them, and also for the path which runs alongside.

Log Text: Afternoon wander around Tytherington village and up to and around the old hillfort / castle. Chap in his garden nearby told me he part owned the land and I could go and have a proper look if I wanted, so I did. There is a lot of broken rock in the remaining ramparts, which surprised me by their completeness (those which hadn't been lost due to the quarrying). Saw a couple of foxes and loads of rabbits.

Log Text: This allée couverte is now a bit of a garden feature within the grounds of a large house on the island of Ile Renote, and is not on public property. Made from the lovely pink granite that everything is round here, the remains are about 8 metres in length and have only one capstone still in place, with another one fallen.
Closer investigation suggests that there may be remains of a lateral entry and peristalith but its difficult to tell. This place is surrounded by magnificent rocks and coastline, and a walk around this island is thoroughly recommended to everybody.

Log Text: This looks to be a fairly complete standard allée couverte well signposted and in a little grassy area on Ile-Grande, just off the coast near Trebeurden. It is about 9 metres long by 1.5 metres wide, and oriented to 110°. There are two large capstones which cover most of the chamber. Many of the outer peristalith stones survive, particularly on the southern side and the back end, and there are traces of the mound within them.

At what is now the southern end of the mound remains is a large structure with slab sides and a flattened floor, which was possibly the remains of a large chamber and its passageway, the southern half of which has been destroyed. Further down the field, behind where this shot was taken from, and not on any remains of mound, was a large flat stone which looked to have once been a capstone.
This is the view looking north along the mound at the remai...

Ty Corriganet de Coat Menez Guen submitted by Ozzie on 8th Mar 2016. Ty Corriganet de Coat Menez is 1km past Allée Couverte de Coat Luzuen down a farm track, across a soggy ford and in a field on the left. It is quite overgrown. The Allée Couverte de Coat Luzuen photo has been incorrectly used for this monument in Megalithes de Bretagne.
(View photo, vote or add a comment)
Log Text: From the Coat Luzuen allée couverte, continue on about 800 metres further down the road which peters out into a trackway and descends to the bottom of the valley. Turn left at the bottom, cross the stream, go along the wet track and the Coat-Menez-Guen allée couverte is to be found at the end of the field. Unfortunately when I visited, it was completely inaccessible through a large crop of rape seed.
It is supposedly a superb monument, being a 14 metre long allée couverte of the arc boutée type with some capstones added for good measure. However, all I saw was the capstones ! It took me a lot of effort and time to get here, and unfortunately it was not worth the effort in this state. Its probably a good one to visit in February or something !
