Log Text: I see in my notes that there is a menhir to be found in the commune of Uxelles, but there is nothing to be found on any of my maps, and I could find no signposts to it or reference to it on any of the village signs.

Log Text: Marked on the ign maps, this is now thought to be a natural rock formation. It looks to be an hours walk from anywhere to get to it in its hilltop position, so I didn't go. However, excavations have been carried out here, and fragments of neolithic pottery were found.
Dolmen de la Croix Blanche (Felletin)
Trip No.204 Entry No.179 Date Added: 21st Aug 2020
Site Type: Burial Chamber or Dolmen
Country: France (Limousin:Creuse (23))
Visited: Couldn't find on 23rd Jul 2005

Dolmen de la Croix Blanche submitted by TheCaptain on 22nd Jul 2013. When looking for this in 2005, I looked long and hard but found nothing except for a sign telling me about it
(View photo, vote or add a comment)
Log Text: To the east of Felletin, on the D.10 road to Crocq, is supposedly this dolmen, at the hamlet of Croix Blanche. I looked long and hard but found nothing except for a sign telling me about it, and how it had had a grant from various people for restoration in 1987-89. Apparently its an Angevin dolmen, but whether its in the dense woodland, or in the field of tall sweetcorn, I do not know! There was nobody around to ask.
Saint-Hilaire Dolmen

Site Type: Burial Chamber or Dolmen
Country: France (Limousin:Creuse (23))

Saint-Hilaire Dolmen submitted by ocdolmen on 26th May 2009. Saint-Hilaire dolmen, nice passage tomb in Limousin region.

Log Text: I could not find this, despite it being clearly marked on my ign 1:100,000 map. However, it seem to be no longer marked on any new maps, I wonder whether it is a casualty of the N.145 trunk road, or whether it is still to be found somewhere near to the big road junction.

Site Type: Burial Chamber or Dolmen
Country: France (Poitou:Vienne (86))
Visited: Couldn't find on 21st Jul 2005
Log Text: I found no sign of any dolmen or other megalithic monument in this village, but there is a place called Pierre Brune on the 1:25000 map to the northwest of the village near the rubbish dump.
Pouzac Dolmen
Trip No.204 Entry No.153 Date Added: 17th Aug 2020
Site Type: Burial Chamber or Dolmen
Country: France (Poitou:Vienne (86))
Visited: Couldn't find on 20th Jul 2005

Pouzac dolmen submitted by TheCaptain on 3rd Dec 2007. Even having the detailed map of the area, finding this dolmen was not easy.
It is to be found in the side of the hedge, and is getting rather overgrown.

Log Text: I could find absolutely no sign of this. I should have the few minutes extra in the shop to have a look at or buy the 1:25000 map, rather than think I could go without.
Vaintray menhir
Trip No.204 Entry No.151 Date Added: 17th Aug 2020
Site Type: Standing Stone (Menhir)
Country: France (Poitou:Vienne (86))
Visited: Couldn't find on 20th Jul 2005

Vaintray menhir submitted by thecaptain on 8th Dec 2007. Just to the east of the hamlet of Vaintray, and about 100 metres south down a little cross track from the road to Aslonnes, can be found this little menhir, stood in a little grassy clearing amongst bushes in a region left clear of the fields.
(View photo, vote or add a comment)
Log Text: Lots of new houses have been built in the area around this menhir, and I could find nowhere to get behind them to have a look. It is all very busy, narrow roads around here.
Dolmen de Laverré
Trip No.204 Entry No.150 Date Added: 17th Aug 2020
Site Type: Burial Chamber or Dolmen
Country: France (Poitou:Vienne (86))
Visited: Couldn't find on 20th Jul 2005

Dolmen de Laverré submitted by TheCaptain on 4th Dec 2007. This dolmen is a kilometre or so to the south of the village of Andillé, and can be found in the round wooded area behind the lone house to the northwest of the road.

Log Text: Most of the fields around here have a bunch of bushes in the middle of them. I went over to two, but they both looked just like field clearance piles. There wasn't anywhere to properly park, nor to turn round and go back to where I think the dolmen must be, so I missed this one. I must try harder.
Roche d'Avon
Trip No.204 Entry No.148 Date Added: 17th Aug 2020
Site Type: Burial Chamber or Dolmen
Country: France (Poitou:Deux-Sèvres (79))
Visited: Couldn't find on 20th Jul 2005
Log Text: In the book I have about Bougon, there is a map showing a dolmen at Roche D'Avon. A drive past the area and there is nothing obvious to see except a major farm of this name.
Pierre Levée de Bougon

Site Type: Burial Chamber or Dolmen
Country: France (Poitou:Deux-Sèvres (79))
Visited: Couldn't find on 20th Jul 2005
Log Text: Unless this is another name for the Dolmen des Sept Chemins, I could find nothing for this.
Les Vinettes
Trip No.204 Entry No.146 Date Added: 17th Aug 2020
Site Type: Burial Chamber or Dolmen
Country: France (Poitou:Deux-Sèvres (79))

Dolmen de Fontenille
Trip No.204 Entry No.132 Date Added: 15th Aug 2020
Site Type: Burial Chamber or Dolmen
Country: France (Poitou:Deux-Sèvres (79))
Visited: Couldn't find on 19th Jul 2005

Dolmen de Fontenille submitted by johnstone on 12th Feb 2018. Almost hidden in the bush, hardly visible, June 4, 2014
(View photo, vote or add a comment)
Log Text: From the village of Faye-l'Abbesse I tried to find the Fontenille double dolmen, hoping that the village had a map with it marked, but there wasn't. All it has is lots of lorries and a difficult traffic scheme. I found a track to Fontenilles farm, but it was all closed off and gated with no way through, and no signs of any dolmens. This is not the nicest part of France.
La Pierre-Levée de Maisonneuve
Trip No.204 Entry No.114 Date Added: 4th Aug 2020
Site Type: Burial Chamber or Dolmen
Country: France (Poitou:Vienne (86))
Visited: Couldn't find on 18th Jul 2005
Log Text: This is marked on my ign 1:100,000 map, but down a dead end lane into a forest southeast of Loudun. I had a good look round, but there were no signs or anything, and in the thick bushy forest I didn't really stand a chance.
La Roche Vernaise
Trip No.204 Entry No.106 Date Added: 3rd Aug 2020
Site Type: Burial Chamber or Dolmen
Country: France (Poitou:Vienne (86))
Visited: Couldn't find on 17th May 2005. My rating: Condition 1 Ambience 2 Access 4

La Roche Vernaise submitted by Rubis on 22nd Sep 2010. In fact, at first view, it seems to have two dolmens.
(View photo, vote or add a comment)
Log Text: On top of a hillock near a junction of lanes to the west of La Roche Vernaise is a big jumble of large stones. It is hard to know whether this is the actual dolmen, or just a load of field clearance stones, but it was the only likely candidate I found in this area. Perhaps it has all been fairly recently all moved to the edges of the fields. There is a lot of stone, so perhaps it was a fairly big dolmen, at least 10 metres in length. It is difficult to know. I don't think I actually found the real dolmen, which is perhaps a bit to the north of here.
La Pierre-Folle allée couverte
Trip No.204 Entry No.104 Date Added: 3rd Aug 2020
Site Type: Passage Grave
Country: France (Poitou:Vienne (86))
Visited: Couldn't find on 17th Jul 2005

La Pierre-Folle allée couverte submitted by Rubis on 21st Sep 2010. Side: opening gate.
The lady that was there for the Journées du Patrimoine said that is was longer that the one of Bagneux but Bagneux is upper!
Site in Poitou:Vienne (86) France

Log Text: To the north of Bournand, but in a very vaguely marked place on my map, is marked the Pierre Folle allée couverte. In the village of Bournand, there is a sign pointing to the Pierre Folle, but as is often the case, there are no more signs later, and try as I might, without a detailed map I could not find this. After my failed visit, I found out that it is an 18 metre long allée couvert, on inaccessible private land within a Renaissance Lodge. It is said to be a superb megalithic monument.
Lann Ar Peulven menhir
Trip No.214 Entry No.16 Date Added: 23rd Jul 2020
Site Type: Standing Stone (Menhir)
Country: France (Bretagne:Côtes-D'Armor (22))
Visited: Couldn't find on 16th Apr 2014

Lann Ar Peulven menhir submitted by FelixBerger on 28th Aug 2017. Well hidden in the woods - this site is not easily accessible, there are thorny shrubs and ticks around, and no path. It is an enchanted place, make sure to not disturb it.
(View photo, vote or add a comment)
Log Text: A five metre tall menhir which should be found in the forest to the west of the D.88 to the north of Lannion, however I could not find a way to get to it.
l'Accomodement Menhir
Trip No.204 Entry No.102 Date Added: 20th Jul 2020
Site Type: Standing Stone (Menhir)
Country: France (Pays de la Loire:Maine-et-Loire 49)
Visited: Couldn't find on 16th Jul 2005

l'Accomodement Menhir submitted by TheCaptain on 28th Aug 2013. This menhir is about 3 metres in length, but only a metre high. I think probably it is broken.

Log Text: Somewhere between a new major road junction and a railway junction, in farmland. I tried, including driving round many farm tracks, but could find no signs of this at all.
Grande Pierre de la Prée de Thouars

Grande Pierre de la Prée de Thouars submitted by ocdolmen on 16th Sep 2009. Lenay menhir 2 (3.20 metres)
(View photo, vote or add a comment)
Log Text: Supposedly near the river Thouet south of Lenay, and it looked easy to find from the map. I looked, but found nothing, despite walking for what seemed like miles. It must be behind the farm somewhere.
