La Pierre de Lenay
Trip No.204 Entry No.100 Date Added: 20th Jul 2020
Site Type: Standing Stone (Menhir)
Country: France (Pays de la Loire:Maine-et-Loire 49)
Visited: Couldn't find on 16th Jul 2005
Log Text: This menhir is supposedly right by the river Thouet at Lenay, and looked as if it would be easy to find. I looked, and looked again, but found nothing. Must be on private land.
Menhir dit de Grésil
Trip No.204 Entry No.99 Date Added: 20th Jul 2020
Site Type: Standing Stone (Menhir)
Country: France (Pays de la Loire:Maine-et-Loire 49)
Visited: Couldn't find on 16th Jul 2005
Log Text: There are three menhirs marked on my 1:100,000 map here in the region of the ring road to the south of the town of Montreuil-Bellay. I struggled to find any of them, so went to the local Super U to check out the 1:25,000 map. Turns out there are 4 menhirs to be found, and three castles, one of which blocks off most of the town to a camping car. This menhir is somewhere in a swamp by the river Thouet, between a major road junction and the river Thouet, with no chance of being able to find it.
Dolmens du Bois de la Chenaise
Trip No.204 Entry No.95 Date Added: 20th Jul 2020
Site Type: Burial Chamber or Dolmen
Country: France (Pays de la Loire:Maine-et-Loire 49)
Visited: Couldn't find on 16th Jul 2005
Dolmens du Bois de la Chenaise submitted by TheCaptain on 20th Jul 2020.
This is within a fenced off and private area. There was no way I could get to see this one, which is in a wood on top of a hill.

Dolmen de la Colleterie
Trip No.204 Entry No.71 Date Added: 16th Jul 2020
Site Type: Burial Chamber or Dolmen
Country: France (Pays de la Loire:Maine-et-Loire 49)
Visited: Couldn't find on 14th Jul 2005
Log Text: I had no chance of finding this, although I tried very hard for quite some length of time. The roads around here are all barricaded off so that they can build the new motorway north of Angers. I don't think that the dolmen marked on my map will be in the path of the motorway. I had a long walk round all the tracks I could find which looked like it might be there, but it is probably in dense woodland. I found lots of bees and a deer though.
Dolmen de Romme
Trip No.204 Entry No.70 Date Added: 16th Jul 2020
Site Type: Burial Chamber or Dolmen
Country: France (Pays de la Loire:Maine-et-Loire 49)
Visited: Couldn't find on 14th Jul 2005
Log Text: I saw no evidence of this one, supposedly just to the northeast of the ruined chateau, beside the river Romme. The best option is that it is somewhere down a private and gated trackway.
Pointe De Primel Dolmen
Trip No.193 Entry No.25 Date Added: 13th Jul 2020
Site Type: Chambered Tomb
Country: France (Bretagne:Finistère (29))
Visited: Couldn't find on 31st May 1993
Pointe De Primel Dolmen submitted by karolus on 10th Jan 2018. General mound of brambles over the dolmen, with some toppled outliers.

Log Text: Cycling camping trip of north Brittany, day 3. Breton Corniche, Treburden, Lannion, Corniche Armorique to Primel Tregastel. Wonderful camp-site right on the Pointe de Primel, so I went to look for this dolmen marked on the map, but I couldn't find it under the undergrowth. After a beer and shower, we cycled for an ace meal round the other side of the bay at Le Diben, where I made the waitress laugh because of my Quebec accent and expressions!

Site Type: Standing Stone (Menhir)
Country: France (Bretagne:Morbihan (56))

L'Armoirie menhir submitted by Ogham on 20th Jan 2012. Site in Bretagne:Morbihan (56) France

Log Text: I could not find the forest track which leads to this menhir, again there are no signposts obvious, and this stone is not even marked on the ign 1:25000 map, so I didn’t spend long looking.
Supposedly it’s a 1.5 metre tall menhir that has been broken, standing to the southwest of the alignement, between the D.779 and L'Armorie crossroads. So the menhir would be less imposing than most of the stones in the alignement.

Log Text: I had a quick look for this, now to be found somewhere in the outskirts and building land of Camors, but could see no signs or obvious place for it to be, so moved on.

Log Text: After all the time spent looking for the previous stones, I thought that I'd best not go on another long walk through the forest to try and find this one. My notes and books say that it is difficult to find, so I left it alone.
Cosquéro Menhir
Trip No.204 Entry No.48 Date Added: 11th Jul 2020
Site Type: Standing Stone (Menhir)
Country: France (Bretagne:Morbihan (56))
Visited: Couldn't find on 12th Jul 2005

Cosquéro menhir submitted by Ogham on 9th Aug 2012.
The path is open now and well used from the road to the menhir.

Log Text: The trackway through to this menhir was barricaded off with private signs on it, so I didn’t get to the menhir. It is said to be the largest still standing menhir in Morbihan.
Colého Menhir
Trip No.204 Entry No.31 Date Added: 6th Jul 2020

The menhir is well hidden in the woods at GPS location
47 47.943N 002 45.029W it is 6m in height, 1m in width and 0.5m in depth.
The location was obtained by hand held GPS.

Log Text: Marked on my map as not far from the roadside near to a junction, I thought that this would be an easy menhir to visit. However, the woodland is very thick and filled with bracken, and I could not get to see it.

Log Text: This is supposedly just beside the road, but the forest was far too thick for me to be able to find it.
La Pierre Branlante (Trédion)
Trip No.204 Entry No.19 Date Added: 6th Jul 2020
Site Type: Burial Chamber or Dolmen
Country: France (Bretagne:Morbihan (56))

La Pierre Branlante (Trédion) submitted by johnstone on 1st Apr 2018. The so called dolmen on June 22, 2012

Log Text: The track up to this from the road between Tredion and Ervan was gated and with a keep out sign. I hoped I would be able to perhaps get to this later from the other side in the forest, but there was no such luck.
Chomet de Coëtplan
Trip No.204 Entry No.9 Date Added: 4th Jul 2020
Site Type: Stone Row / Alignment

Log Text: Despite being on the signposts of the megalithic walk, I could not find this 4 metre tall menhir and its fallen companions. The menhir is the only one now standing of a little alignment, the other stones small and fallen, but it is on private property which is probably why I missed it, despite a very long walk towards it from at least two directions.
La Pièce Couverte
Trip No.204 Entry No.5 Date Added: 22nd Jun 2020
Site Type: Passage Grave

Log Text: This is now not much more than a line of a dozen or so slabs positoned in a line of about 10 metres length, and is probably the remains of an allée couverte. Several of the slabs are marked with cupules and symbols.
Dolmen de Bartalbenque 2
Trip No.205 Entry No.34 Date Added: 18th Jun 2020
Site Type: Burial Chamber or Dolmen
Country: France (Midi:Tarn-et-Garonne (82))
Visited: Couldn't find on 2nd Sep 2005
Log Text: Marked on my map are two dolmens not too far from the road between Dardenne water tower and Bartelbenque. However, this area of land has recently all been divided up and fenced off for what looks like new housing projects. In the scrubland behind the fences it was not possible to see any dolmens. I wonder what their fate is to be.
Dolmen de Bartalbenque 1

Country: France (Midi:Tarn-et-Garonne (82))
Visited: Couldn't find on 2nd Sep 2005

Dolmen de Bartalbenque 1 submitted by weirwolf on 25th Jan 2006. This tomb is complete except for its disappeared capstones which, as seems to have been the rule in W. Europe, sat above the mound or cairn.
