Log Text: This dolmen marked on the ign 1:25000 map is a longish walk up to the top of a steep hill in a densely wooded area so on this very hot afternoon with lots of other possibilities to visit I didn’t bother to try and find it.
Driving from here down the little road to the Lot valley, a large Eagle suddenly swooped into the hedge at the side of the road in front of me, and emerged after a struggle carrying a 4 foot long snake. Still struggling with the snake, it flew off down the valley, struggling to get aloft, with the snake wrigglng about. What a tremendous sight, I felt really privileged to see this. A real David Attenborough moment.

Log Text: Menhir near to the famous cheese village of Roquefort-sur-Soulzon, Aveyron. If you have time between cheese tasting and touring the various caves, there is a little walk signposted from the village which takes you down to the river and a menhir. The scenery here is really spectacular.

Log Text: The book says its 1.3 km down the little track towards Randels, and then somewhere on the left, hidden by undergrowth. I went for a look, but there was nowhere to park a campervan, and I could see nothing obvious, so gave up after a couple of drivebys.

Dolmen de Bel-Air 1 submitted by thecaptain on 22nd Mar 2006. I saw no obvious signs of this one, but it is supposed to be a bit of a wreck with no capstone, under some trees the far side of a field beyond a little ravine.
Is that it under the trees to the right of centre ?

Log Text: Just east of the village of Surguières there is a track to the south, signposted to dolmens. At the first junction, there is a dolmen sign in both directions, to the right is supposed to lead to the Surguières 4 dolmen. I looked for this first, and again later, but could not find anything. I did however get caught up in a herd of sheep being moved !

Visited: Couldn't find on 26th May 2005
Log Text: Marked on the ign 1:100000 map with a pink square and right beside a good road with brand new roadsigns pointing to dolmens, I thought I couldn’t miss these dolmens. Again i walked for miles in all directions, but could I find anything ? Nothing. I am starting to get fed up with this. So I drove away from the area, going through Rodez to try and find the museum, which was very busy with nowhere to park, so I will come back later.

Log Text: Above Salles-la-Source, to the northeast, are roadsigns to the supposedly nicely restored Peyrelebade dolmens. I parked the van and walked miles in the scorching heat along the track north towards Cadeyrac, but could not find the remains of the two dolmens. There are lots of possibilities for where they could be, but more signs are a necessity.

Log Text: Supposedly another 500 metres along the path across the fields beside the railway can be found this nice little dolmen with a 3.5 by 1.5 metre chamber, within a round mound. But time was getting on, and there was no obvious way to get much further along into the fields without climbing fences and walls, and walking through cropped fields. This area was not proving very helpful for finding dolmens, so I decided to give up and move on.

Log Text: On my ign 1:25000 map, theres a dolmen marked right beside the road here, but could I find it ? I spent ages looking, but no, I did not find it. Studying the map closely after this, I don’t see how I could possibly have missed this, everything else matches exactly, even the swallow hole.

Log Text: There are supposedly a couple of lovely dolmens here in the woods. I had a good walk and look around, but could find nothing. I really needed to get the 1:25000 map this morning. They should be found about 600 metres to the east of the hamlet, in the forest to the south of the road. For the first dolmen, a 4 metre by 3 metre capstone sits on top of a 3.5 by 2 m chamber, with some remains of a vestibule.

Log Text: This should have been a banker before moving on late in the afternoon it supposedly being just a hundred metres from the road at a very recognisable corner. I found the corner and parked and went for a look. I searched and searched but the area has become overgrown with scrub thorny bushes brambles wild rose etc. In fact I almost got lost and couldn’t find my way back. This 5 minute banker had turned into about an hour of frustration getting ripped to shreds and bleeding !
