At what is now the southern end of the mound remains is a large structure with slab sides and a flattened floor, which was possibly the remains of a large chamber and its passageway, the southern half of which has been destroyed. Further down the field, behind where this shot was taken from, and not on any remains of mound, was a large flat stone which looked to have once been a capstone.
This is the view looking north along the mound at the remai...

What a find this tomb is. Upon approaching the Cairn across the fields, the first thing that is seen is that there is a very big mound here. This is a massive stone built long barrow, over 50 metres long and 25 wide, and still at least 4 metres in height, on a northwest southeast axis. Quite how this can have only been “discovered” in 1972 is beyond me !

Clyro Court submitted by thecaptain on 14th May 2004. Clyro Court, Chambered Tomb, Powys, SO213432
Marked on the OS map as Chambered Long Cairn, the ruined remains of this tomb can be seen on a little hillock behind a house, beside the busy A438, overlooking the valley of the River Wye at Clyro, just over the river from Hay-on-Wye.
The remains of the tomb can be seen here from the northwest, and are the usual lumpy ground on top of the hillock. What looks like the remains of a stone chamber can be seen sticking out of the ground in the middl...

The remains as seen over the hedge from the lane. In a couple of places can be seen large stone slabs sticking out of the ground, which look to be the remains of two separate chambers. The horse is standing in the region of the southern chamber.

There is one smashing little slab sided chamber about 3 by 1.5 metres, with the stones protruding well up out of the remains of a stone built mound.

Seen here from the north, this once nice round barrow has the obligatory depressions in the top and various other lumps and bumps from attempts to rob or excavate it. Unfortunately, it has now become used by the 4 wheel drive morons to drive over. The whole barrow and surrounding area is now badly scarred with wheel marks and ruts.

Knowlton Great Barrow submitted by TheCaptain on 27th May 2004. Knowlton Great Barrow, Dorset, SU025100.
Large tree covered mound, seen here from within the remaining church henge of the knowlton circles group.
There seems to be some debate as to whether this is in fact a burial mound, or some form of viewing area, positioned as it is near to the henges at Knowlton.
Aerial photos have shown lovely rings around this mound as crop marks during dry years.

Sourton Tors Stone Circle submitted by TheCaptain on 7th Jun 2004. Sourton Tors Stone Circle, Dartmoor, Devon SX546896
This is the view looking towards Corn Ridge of the remains of this stone circle on the saddle between the slopes of Sourton Tors and Corn Ridge.
The giveaway to finding this circle is that it lies just to the southeast of the remains of half an applecrusher which has been carved from a block of granite, but been left up on the moors.
The centre of the circle is just to the left of centre in this picture on the flat ground, and about 12...

Cornridge SE submitted by TheCaptain on 7th Jun 2004. Corn Ridge cairn, Dartmoor, Devon SX551891
The remains of a nice large cairn can be found at the summit of Corn Ridge, about 10m diameter. There is the usual depression in its middle, but otherwise it seems fairly intact, with some quite nice stones forming its outside shape. There is also what seems to be the remains of a circle of stones surrounding it with about 2 metres extra diameter.

The remains of two ring cairns can be seen on the slopes of Sourton Tors, just below the track which continues along from the remains of the tramway beyond the points, at which the railway reversed, the southernmost being slightly larger.

The remains of a large cairn can be found on the southwest slopes of Great Links Tor, about 15m diameter. There is a large depression in its middle, with some fairly large stones laying randomly around, perhaps the remains of a chamber or kist.

The fourth cairn is a round cairn, but containing a clearly visible cist structure within it, and also possible remains of a stone surround.

Cosdon Hill Multiple Stone Rows submitted by TheCaptain on 10th Jun 2004. Cosdon Hill Multiple Stone Rows, Dartmoor, Devon SX643917
This is a view looking downhill from the cairn. As usual, the larger stones are near the cairn, and they generally get smaller the further away from the cairn they are, with a few notable exceptions. Each of the rows has a large slab placed across the rows at its end by the cairn.

Cosdon Hill Cairn Circle submitted by TheCaptain on 10th Jun 2004. Cosdon Hill Cairn Circle, Dartmoor, Devon SX643916
On a flatter shelf of land on the eastern side of Cosdon Hill are the splendid remains of a cairn and treble stone row.
The remains of the cairn at the uphill end of the rows is approx 8 metres in diameter, and has been substantially messed about with. Despite this, there are the clear remains of a double cist in the centre of the cairn, the downhill one of which still has its capstone largely in place. Several stones also remain in place...

White Moor Stone

White Moor Stone submitted by TheCaptain on 12th Jun 2004. White Moor Stone, Dartmoor, Devon SX634895
150 metres southeast of White Moor Stone Circle is the Whit Moor Stone, which is more than 5 feet in height, and has been adapted as a parish boundary stone, with its parish marks cut into it. This stone is almost certainly much older than just a boundary stone, and is likely to be associated in some way with the circle.

The southern cairn is slightly smaller, with a remaining circle of only small stones. The southern row leads downhill from here for about 60 metres.
This is a view of the southern cairn and the top of the stone row looking towards Hart Tor.
