Log Text: In a field just to the southwest of St Michel-de-Larzac can be found this dolmen with a chamber 4 metres long by 1.8 metres wide. There is not much sign of a mound, but the chamber floor is below ground level of the field surrounding it. It is still enclosed on all four sides, and faces towards east at 100°. The capstone is broken, with a further two metres of stone a bit to the west, which would have made a 5.5 by 2.5 metre capstone originally.
Its very blowy up on this high plateau this afternoon, on the way with Ellie to go and cross the Millau viaduct, otherwise known as "the bridge in the sky".

Log Text: A pleasant little dolmen well presented on a sort of village green to the north of the chapel. This is almost certainly the remains of the back end of a passage grave with most of the entry corridor removed, although a few stones and a capstone still remain. The chamber is about 3 metres by 3 metres, with a single large capstone resting on top of several side supports. The back stone has gone.

Log Text: Near to the Balach farm a couple of kilometres south of Lalbenque along the D6 I could find no easy way through to this dolmen with the fields being electrically fenced to keep a herd of bullocks in and a barley crop growing in another field so I gave up after a reasonable try.

Dolmen de Ferrières-Haut submitted by ocdolmen on 30th Jul 2006. in front of the imposant Ferrières dolmen, one of the biggest in Lot.
The capstone is between 0.80 metre and 1 metre thick.

Log Text: This is a very high dolmen which can be found a hundred or so metres south of the GR.65 footpath besides the farm of the same name. Unfortunately one of the side slabs has been broken by a tree growing through it, and it has been dry stone walled at the back end at some time in the past to act as a shelter. The chamber would have been 2 metres long by 1.8 metres wide, and it is a good 2 metres in height, facing 115°, with a 4 metre by 4 metre capstone.

Dolmen de Fontenille submitted by johnstone on 12th Feb 2018. Almost hidden in the bush, hardly visible, June 4, 2014
(View photo, vote or add a comment)
Log Text: From the village of Faye-l'Abbesse I tried to find the Fontenille double dolmen, hoping that the village had a map with it marked, but there wasn't. All it has is lots of lorries and a difficult traffic scheme. I found a track to Fontenilles farm, but it was all closed off and gated with no way through, and no signs of any dolmens. This is not the nicest part of France.
Dolmen de Jasse Rouge
Trip No.203 Entry No.154 Date Added: 16th Apr 2020
Site Type: Burial Chamber or Dolmen
Country: France (Midi:Aveyron (12))
Visited: Yes on 26th May 2005. My rating: Condition 2 Ambience 3 Access 3
Dolmen de Jasse Rouge submitted by TheCaptain on 9th Apr 2011. Amongst the undergrowth are several mounds of stones here, one of which has the remains of a chamber visible in one of its sides.
The mound has been much messed about by farming, and field clearance, and it is difficult to tell what is original. The remains of the chamber are open, and not at all cared for.

Dolmen de Kerdreux submitted by thecaptain on 20th Jan 2007. Kerdreux dolmen out on the beautiful Crozon peninsula.
There are traces of its mound, perhaps with a stone surround. In the centre of the mound is the little dolmen with a broken capstone.

Log Text: Remains of this little dolmen can be found a couple of hundred metres down the track to the west of the hamlet, and then right along the signed footpath. There are traces of its mound, perhaps with a stone surround. In the centre of the mound is the little dolmen with a broken capstone, but one piece is still sitting on a couple of side supports with a chamber underneath it. It is marked on my maps as a menhir, and is a pleasant little find.

Dolmen de Kerourang 2 submitted by TheCaptain on 7th Nov 2007. I couldn’t find this dolmen marked on my map on my way to Luffang, but stopped for another look on the way back. It was very difficult to find, but it is still there to be seen, well hidden under very thick undergrowth.
I later found out that there are in fact two dolmens a couloir to be found here, within 20 metres of each other.
It's a great shame they are so overgrown and neglected.

Log Text: I couldn’t find this dolmen marked on my map on my way to Luffang, but stopped for another look on the way back, after another look at the map. It was very difficult to find, but it is still there to be seen, well hidden under very thick undergrowth. What I eventually found was, near to the trackway a couple of capstones sit on top of a little passageway completely surrounded and covered by gorse.
I later find out that there are in fact two monuments to be found here, within 20 metres of each other, and that they are both dolmen a couloir with large circular chambers, still fairly well preserved inside their mounds, still with some of their capstones. It's a great shame they are so overgrown and neglected.
While here looking about in the woods before I found this, I was approached by two offroad cyclists, who thought I was lost. I said no, I was searching for a dolmen, but they insisted that there was no dolmen here. I had left my map in the van, but they had one with them, so we compared notes, and I pointed to the clearly marked dolmen. No, they said, we are over here, pointing elsewhere. Well, I was pretty sure where I thought I was, as were they, so we agreed to differ, and go our different ways.
I decided to go back to the van, with just one more look in the woods where their map had confirmed that I should find something, and there it was - extremely well hidden. I called over to the cyclists, who had been standing about arguing and pointing at the map. They came, and I pointed out the stones. Oui, c'est vrai, c'est un dolmen! Turns out it was them that were lost ! They thanked me, and there was lots more bickering between them, then they parted with some very cheerful words and waving. As they cycled off, and they cycled off into the distance, the bickering turning to shouting and cursing, and a full scale argument ! I felt glad to have helped them out, as indeed they had helped me, by making me look just one more time for that damned dolmen !

Dolmen de l'Héritière submitted by ocdolmen on 25th May 2009. Near Arnac la Poste, the dolmen of l'Héritière

Log Text: To the southwest of Saint-Sulpice-les-Feuilles, between Bouéry and Bras dolmens, in the commune of Arnac-la-Poste, is another dolmen marked on my ign 1:100,000 map, near to the hamlet of L'Ecluse. At the road junction, there was a sign with a dolmen marked on it, with a name something like Le Pau Montbugnard. But following the sign, I was unable to find another, and was not able to find the dolmen. Parking along these little roads was difficult, so I was not able to get out and have a proper look around in the fields and woods. Shame, because the other two round here are little crackers. I could not find a detailed map to look at in either St-Sulpice or Arnac.

Dolmen de l'Hôtel-Dieu submitted by thecaptain on 19th Oct 2005. Pierre des Druides, or Hotel Dieu dolmen, near to the village of Les Ventes, seen in its field on a terribly wet morning in May.

Dolmen de la Barbière submitted by AlexHunger on 2nd Jun 2005. One large capstone supported by 4 smaller uprights, with other stones nearby, including smaller capstone still half supported by one small upright. Probably allee couverte. Cross made out of piece of megalith next to it. Small path leading up from main road.

Log Text: This dolmen appears in all the tourist literature, and is signposted for miles around, yet when you get there it is fenced off in private land, although in this case easy enough to access to nearby.
As with a few other dolmens around here, I struggled to identify just what it is the remains of. There are lots of big stones on a little hill top, with one large capstone sitting on three support stones nearest to the road, but there is much more. It is possible that it was once two dolmen chambers with entry corridors. The standing capstone is covering what would have been a 3 metre by 2 metre chamber with an entrance passage to the east, but the rest is too much of a jumble to determine properly.

Dolmen de la Bastière 1 submitted by thecaptain on 10th Feb 2006. There is a registered historic monument dolmen somewhere to the south of the road between Lussac and Montmorillon. I had a good look around, but could find no obvious dolmen.
However the fields round here have several mounds and piles of stones, which are perhaps the remains of half a dozen dolmens or burial mounds.

Without any more details, I find it hard to know just what is the historical monument dolmen. Perhaps its none of these mounds I saw, and is hiding in a hedge or the very thick woodland nearby. On seeing a more detailed map later in the day, the dolmen is probably a bit further from the road, into the woodland at the far side of the field, to where I had walked. Damn.

Dolmen de la Boucharderie submitted by thecaptain on 7th Dec 2005. Well hidden under a group of trees (elder hawthorn and a big walnut tree) in the middle of a field is a nice little dolmen with a rectangular chamber about 3 metres by 2 metres with a single capstone on top about a metre thick. There are about 6 support slabs still in place and a few more broken or fallen.

Log Text: This was a bit of a bugger to find what with road building schemes and diversions taking me miles away and then very narrow lanes with tight corners and no passing places through Cognac vineyard country. There was nothing obvious so I parked and asked people at the farm who gladly pointed me to some trees in the middle of a freshly planted field of maize. “C’est sous l’arbre un tres jolie photo”. I was assured it was OK for me to walk through the field to go and have a look so carefully I did.

There are about 6 support slabs still in place and a few more broken or fallen. Its well liked by rabbits and other local wildlife and the chamber is absolutely full of walnut shells and sweetcorn remains.

Log Text: There is a dolmen marked on my ign map near to the village of La Bourde a la Gousse, so I went to have a look. I walked a fair distance down a forest track, but I could find nothing. The forest was either very dense and impenetrable, or fenced off. There was at one point lots of rocks on the forest floor, in about the right position, but these were in a fenced off enclosure.

Log Text: Remains of a little Bronze Age dolmen/stone cist (coffre) are found near to the Chapelle St Theodore, at the road junction just to the west. It's only about 1.5 by 1 metre in size, but the stone cover sits on top of a couple of supports, which in turn are on top of a cist type arrangement in a little mound.
Dolmen de la Colleterie
Trip No.204 Entry No.71 Date Added: 16th Jul 2020
Site Type: Burial Chamber or Dolmen
Country: France (Pays de la Loire:Maine-et-Loire 49)
Visited: Couldn't find on 14th Jul 2005
Log Text: I had no chance of finding this, although I tried very hard for quite some length of time. The roads around here are all barricaded off so that they can build the new motorway north of Angers. I don't think that the dolmen marked on my map will be in the path of the motorway. I had a long walk round all the tracks I could find which looked like it might be there, but it is probably in dense woodland. I found lots of bees and a deer though.
