Log Text: This is a little dolmen with a 2.5m by 2.5m capstone sitting on three support slabs, making up part of a hedge. It's about 100 metres from the roadside along a track and signposted.

Log Text: Although I have seen this described as an allée couverte, it looks to me to be a simple dolmen still mostly within its mound. It is unsure what this monument was originally. It's in a little woodland area, beside the road by an industrial stoneworking site. It suffers badly from neglect, and has lots of rubbish strewn around.

Log Text: This is a nice dolmen with a lovely shaped and pitted egg shaped capstone, about 4 metres by 4 metres sitting on the top of two three to four metre long side slabs. The chamber is a healthy 4 metres by 2 metres internal dimensions.

The dolmen is signposted up a track to the top of a little hill just to the north of Rodez airport runway, but the atmosphere here is spoiled a bit by all the road straightening and widening going on nearby. There are fantastic views from here across towards Rodez.

Log Text: Just to the south of the D.55 road between Beauregard and Laramière, and signposted, this dolmen is sat in a little clearing beside a trackway. Much larger than the average round here, this dolmen has a 6 metre by 4 metre capstone sitting on top of a 5 metre long chamber facing east at 100°. The dolmen still sits in the remains of its mound, which possibly still has some remains of a surrounding circle of stones. On top of the capstone, above the entrance to the chamber, there is a basin, or large cupule cut into the rock. The ambience of the place is spoiled by masses of plastic sheeting covered hay bales in the immediate vicinity.

Log Text: 500 metres to the west of the Le Blanc allée couverte in a field just beside the road to Naussannes this dolmen has become covered in brambles and bushes. It is still 2 metres high the large capstone resting on at least three big support stones of which at least one has collapsed.

This one is guarded by a tricky barbed wire gate which caught my shirt on the way in and on the way out I tripped on it and it ripped my trousers and leg to shreds. Its obviously one of those days.

Log Text: Above Salles-la-Source, to the northeast, are roadsigns to the supposedly nicely restored Peyrelebade dolmens. I parked the van and walked miles in the scorching heat along the track north towards Cadeyrac, but could not find the remains of the two dolmens. There are lots of possibilities for where they could be, but more signs are a necessity.

Log Text: This is a nice little dolmen in a pleasant open bit of land with lots of orchids butterflies and lizards at the time of my visit on a sunny May morning. Its just off the D93 between St Vivien and Paussac 50 metres down a little track which is signposted from the road.

The dolmen consists of a strangely layered dark reddish brown/black capstone sitting on 5 limestone supports about 2 metres off the ground covering a chamber of dimensions approximately 3m by 2m. What looks like a further fallen capstone and an extra chamber is at the western end and there are lots of big stones around. Perhaps it was once a much bigger or multiple chambered type of thing.

Log Text: To the west of the village of Septfonds, and to the south of the little airfield are several dolmens in the woodlands. There are signposts to "dolmens" and down a little track is a parking place and more signs. Right beside this track is the first dolmen you come to. It is still mostly within its mound of loose stone, and quite a large one. The 5 metres by 4 metres capstone sits on top of a chamber 4 metres in length, by 2 metres wide, made with the usual 2 large sideslabs and a back stone, but these stones are completely below ground level. The chamber opens to the east, on a bearing of about 080°. To the west of the main dolmen are a couple of other long side set slabs near to the roadside, where the mound has been cut away. Perhaps this is the remains of a secondary burial chamber ? The mound diameter is about 15 metres. There are lots of strange red topped mushrooms / toadstools poking up through the ground here. Very interesting.

Log Text: I spent ages walking around many small lanes near the hamlet of Pincanelle looking for this 5 metre long dolmen capstone and asked an old lady in her garden but got nowhere. The lady apparently has no interest in such things and didn’t want to help although she was very interested in what I was doing !

Log Text: High up in the hills to the northwest of St-Nectaire can be found this dolmen, still almost entirely contained within its cairn of stones. The capstone is visible above a chamber, just above the top level of the present day cairn, and is about 4 metres by 3 metres. Apart from one squared corner, and the upper most row of side support stones, not much can be seen at all of the chamber below, which may have been quite large. The stone cairn is approximately 20 metres in diameter, and still about 2.5 to 3 metres high.

The dolmen is fairly easily found by taking a trackway south from the D.640 road along the hilltop above St-Nectaire near Sailles, and is the same trackway which leads to the easily visible Freydefrond menhir. But where a right turn leads to the menhir, take a left turn along a track into the woods, and after a couple of hundred metres the cairn becomes obvious, right at the end of the track.

Log Text: Pleasant enough little dolmen sitting in a field of crops about 200 metres from the road, but with a signpost. The capstone is sitting on three support stones, but I couldn’t get close enough to note any details.

Log Text: Near to the road running south from the village of Tripleville towards Prunay can be found this dolmen, about 50 metres from the road across a field. It's not much more than a large stone on a slight raise in the land, but there may be more below. Its about 3m by 3m and rounded in shape, and very thick, perhaps 1.7 metres.

Log Text: The old chap at Chateau Pierre Levée knew of this dolmen's existence but the chap at Puy Landry winery didn’t but he pointed me in the direction of a menhir on the top of Puy Landry hill about a kilometre to the north but ce n’est pas grand.. I initially thought it was too far to go walking to in the intense heat and suspected he was pointing me to the Clotte menhir on the ridge but having driven nearby to have a better look it didn’t seem so far. About 400 metres from the D21E road up a track between the vineyards to the top of the ridge and in the woodland can be seen a standing stone.

Closer inspection shows the stone to be about 1.5 metres tall with a fallen companion about a metre away to the north. These stones are on top of a mound running in an easterly direction and there are several other stones lying about in the vicinity which leads me to suspect that this is indeed the remains of a dolmen or allée couverte.

Log Text: Just to the west of the D.19 road to the north of St-Jean-de-Laur, this initially looks to be a small dolmen, but upon closer inspection is probably just half of the remains of one. It is well fenced off, and proper acces to investigate it fully cannot be obtained.

Log Text: A slightly bigger than average dolmen for round here, and still mostly within its mound, this one can be found in a bit of scrubland just off the road between Miers and Floirac, although it took a fair bit of looking.

The capstone is about 3.5 by 3 metres, and is sitting only on some fairly basic supports, just off the ground. I cannot make out the chamber below, or its inside the mound still.

Its lovely here, with insects and birds chirrping and tweeting, with a cuckoo going at full tilt, and loads of wildflowers everywhere. I have just seen two sorts of orchid which I haven't seen before. From some research after my visit, I learn that this is perhaps not a dolmen, but a capstone in the process of being extracted and moved. However, if this is the case, why the mound ?

Log Text: This little dolmen is found in a sort of parkland high up on the slopes of Puy de Pauliac, above the historical village of Aubazines. It is signposted from the road. A triangular 3 metres by 2 metres capstone sits delicately balanced on top of two side support stones and a back stone, with a chamber 2.5 metres long by 1 metre wide underneath. The two side stones are both pointed at the top, and the capstone sits only on their points, and the small backstone almost at the same place, overhanging substantially in all directions. The chamber faces eastwards, at a bearing of 080°. The capstone has a lovely ring to it when knocked.

Log Text: This simple dolmen, still half within its small round mound, can be found a few hundred metres walk into the forest from a signposted parking place nearby. It has been dated to between 2000 and 2400 BC, and has a very simple form, reminiscent to the dolmens to be found further to the south of France. There are two side slabs and an end stone making a chamber about 2 metres long by 1,5 metres wide, with a single capstone sitting on top. The remains of the mound are about 10 metres in diameter.
