Log Text: Hetty Peglers Tump or Uleybury Long Barrow can be accessed by parking by the side of the road with a short walk across a field, when I last went the the entrance was locked but I understand that there is now access to the interior which from a visit in the 1990's is very impressive but you will need to crouch really low to enter.

King's Quoit, Manorbier

King's Quoit, Manorbier submitted by sem on 25th Aug 2004. Looking SW,the view here is outstanding. This must have been a very sought after plot of Neolithic real-estate.It is set in a hollow on the cliffside lined with stones bigger than any but the capstone.Children & Nash suggest "no covering mound would have existed because the ledge.....is far too narrow." (Logaston Press 2002)

Log Text: Directions

The Kings Quoit is located south west on a small bank above a cliff face immediately adjacent to the Pembrokeshire coastal foot path approximately 300m from the beach at Manorbeir Bay

Description

The monument which faces inland towards Manorbeir consists of a huge single capstone of local stone supported by two uprights, although a third upright located at the south eastern end, which is now probably collapsed. The position of the three uprights suggests that the chamber was originally rectangular. The Kings Quoit maybe regarded as ‘Earth Fast’ belonging to the sub-megalithic classification.

Log Text: This is a very easy site to visit, you need to park on the main road that runs between Newport and Moylegrove. A short walk up the access path to Penlan Farm which bears round to the left and the monument can be found via a stile in a field on your right. You do not need permission from Penlan Farm.

Merrivale North Row

Merrivale North Row submitted by stewart on 12th Oct 2003. Grid Ref SX 555 747 There are two, main, rows at Merrivale - North and South. The north row consists of two lines of stones, aligned east -west and nearly 200m long. However, the two lines of stones are only about 1m apart so you can only just walk between them. It has larger stones at the west end and a blocking stone at the east. The southern row doesn't start or finish on the same alignment, is not parallel to the northern one and was, probably, not built at the same time. ...

The stones from this cairn were removed in 1851 to mend the road, leaving just a circle of uneven ground, with a few slabs remaining in an outer bank.

In the distance, in the glare of the setting sun, can be seen the two west end stones of the southern row. Two other taller stones on the south side of that southern row are also visible above centre, and to right of pic. Merry Maidens (Circle) submitted by JimChampion on 27th Oct 2006. August 2005. The Merry Maidens under fluffy white clouds. I rediscovered this photo and selectively manipulated the contrast so that you can now see the stones (previously they were too dark). I've uploaded a similar photo to Wikimedia Commons - they need pictures of ancient sites for use on free sites like Wikipedia.
