Cock Low (Leek)  Round Barrow(s)  England  Staffordshire  Visited  1st Mar 2012  -1  3  5
Nicholson Museum and Art Gallery  Museum  England  Staffordshire  Visited  1st Mar 2012  4  4  5
Leekfrith Tumulus  Round Barrow(s)  England  Staffordshire  Visited  16th Sep 2014  3  4  4  Unscheduled barrow. Barnatt suggested it may be a glacial mound. Staffs H.E.R. records a possible Burnt Mound nearby.
Holy Trinity Church, Eccleshall  Ancient Cross  England  Staffordshire  Visited  28th Jul 2012  3  3  5
Bullstones  Stone Circle  England  Cheshire  Visited  21st Aug 2011  3  4  4
Elkstone Barrow 2  Round Barrow(s)  England  Staffordshire  Visited  7th Sep 2014  3  3  4  Visible as a low, spread mound a short distance to the South of Elkstone I. The surface is fairly rough, like much of the field. The field drops away to the South of the barrow. Can be seen from Breech Road for a clearer view in profile. Elkstone III is to the South-West of this barrow - the long q...

Elkstone Barrow 1  Round Barrow(s)  England  Staffordshire  Visited  7th Sep 2014  2  3  4  The most visible of the three barrows in this field but also the most mutilated. The field is very rough pasture with lots of evidence of mining and quarrying. Reminded me a little of the field containing Grindon Moor Barrow. Fantastic panoramic views though. Elkstone II and III are to the South of ...

Sandbach Crosses  Ancient Cross  England  Cheshire  Visited  1st Jan 2012  3  4  5
The Bear Stone  Natural Stone / Erratic / Other Natural Feature  England  Cheshire  Visited  1st Jan 2012  4  3  5
St James the Great, Audlem  Round Barrow(s)  England  Cheshire  Visited  1st Jan 2012  4  4  5
Rudston Monolith  Standing Stone (Menhir)  England  Yorkshire (East)  Visited  12th Apr 2014  3  4  5  Awesome!
Bishop's Wood  Hillfort  England  Staffordshire  Visited  2nd Jun 2013  3  4  2  The road leading to the site is a private road. The main road running South from Loggerheads is very busy and nowhere to park. I would suggest parking in Loggerheads itself and walking to the site. There are paths leading nearly all the way around the fort. Ditches and banks visible in parts. Fairly...

Booth Low 3  Round Barrow(s)  England  Staffordshire  Visited  6th May 2013  1  2  5  Possible only viewpoint for this site may be the road leading past Low farm (yes it is a public highway). Very badly damaged. Unscheduled?
Booth Low 2  Round Barrow(s)  England  Staffordshire  Visited  6th May 2013  2  3  3  Not as large or as well preserved as Booth Low I. The field gate just happened to be open when I visited. The footpath runs below the site.
Booth Low 1  Round Barrow(s)  England  Staffordshire  Visited  6th May 2013  3  4  4  This is the barrow Elizabeth Biddulph calls Fawfieldhead Low in her book Leek's Forgotten Past. Very large, dwarfs the modern barn next to it. One of my favourite barrows in Staffordshire Moorlands.
Brund Low  Round Barrow(s)  England  Staffordshire  Visited  6th May 2013  3  3  5  Visible from the road. Top has been levelled but otherwise in reasonable condition.
Rye Low  Round Barrow(s)  England  Staffordshire  Visited  6th May 2013  3  4  4  Well preserved apart from the central crater in which the oak tree stands. Public footpath from Brund to Sheen runs right past the Southern edge of the barrow.
Stanshope Cairn 2  Cairn  England  Staffordshire  Visited  11th Aug 2013  1  2  4  Descheduled. The earthwork mound reported by Bateman has gone. The natural rock outcrop shows little evidence of use for the funerary deposits recorded by Bateman and Carrington due to quarrying, the wall being built on top of it etc. Due to Bateman's vague description of location difficult to be su...

Stanshope Cairn 1  Cairn  England  Staffordshire  Visited  11th Aug 2013  2  3  4  No parking at the end of Pasture Lane, but only a short walk to this site along the Lane. Pasture Lane is not a vehicular access.
Damgate Cairns 2  Cairn  England  Staffordshire  Visited  11th Aug 2013  3  3  4  Visible from Ilam Moor Lane, the footpath running through the adjacent field and from Pasture Lane, Stanshope near to Stanshope Cairns 1.
Top Low 2  Round Barrow(s)  England  Staffordshire  Visited  5th May 2014  3  4  4  Footpaths run along the hillside above the site and along the valley floor below. Mutilation on the mound reveals natural rock, so the barrow may merge with a natural feature. Sheep using the hollow on the top of the barrow as a bed when I visited.
Top Low 1  Round Barrow(s)  England  Staffordshire  Visited  5th May 2014  2  4  3  Site is located on private land with no footpath access to site. However, both sets of field walls between the public footpath lower down the hill and the site are down for some reason there is nothing to prevent anyone from climbing to the top of the hill at the moment.
Caltonmoor  Round Barrow(s)  England  Staffordshire  Visited  5th May 2014  1  2  5  Descheduled rather than unscheduled. Calton Moor Barrow is probably seen by more people each day than any other in Staffordshire, but it is virtually destroyed. Of the four quadrants only one partially survives and that's badly plough damaged. Main reason for descheduling though is the track cutting...

Hurst Low  Round Barrow(s)  England  Staffordshire  Couldn't find  7th Apr 2013        Saw a huge misshapen mound in the field containing Hurst Low but that looked more like a spoil heap or something. Large agricultural building has been erected nearby in same field too. Whole area very messy with vehicles parked in the field and bits of rusty agricultural equipment lain about. Failed...

Grindon Moor Barrow  Round Barrow(s)  England  Staffordshire  Visited  7th Apr 2013  2  3  4  Visible from the road. A footpath crosses the field containing the site. The field is full of lumps, bumps, mounds, pits etc.
Windywaycross  Early Christian Sculptured Stone  England  Staffordshire  Visited  1st Jun 2012  3  4  5  It has the date it was erected carved into it.
Hoften's Cross  Early Christian Sculptured Stone  England  Staffordshire  Visited  1st Jun 2013  3  3  5  Visible from the road and the car park of The Cross pub across the road. A footpath enters the field where Hoften's Cross is located. The close proximity of a stable made this not one of the more scenic spots. A shame that the pub sign has a crusader knight on it rather than this rude cross!
Lamber Low  Round Barrow(s)  England  Staffordshire  Visited  6th Jul 2013  2  3  4  The field containing the site was full of cows. They seemed to have uncovered a patch of grass just below the barrow and broken the exposed stone. That may have been a remnant of the field wall.
Stonesteads  Round Barrow(s)  England  Staffordshire  Visited  6th Jul 2013  3  3  4  Rather overgrown when I visited. 'Gulliver' and the Cement works formed a contrasting backdrop. Must try to visit it again when the farmer has mown the fields.
The Butter Cross (Cheddleton)  Ancient Cross  England  Staffordshire  Visited  16th Feb 2014  4  4  4  Never seen so many gnats in one place! Other than that a really good site and easy to access.
Merryton Low 2  Round Barrow(s)  England  Staffordshire  Visited  1st Apr 2013  3  3  4  Very narrow for a barrow
Merryton Low 1  Round Barrow(s)  England  Staffordshire  Visited  1st Apr 2013  2  3  5  The war memorial is to commerate members of the Leek Home Guard who then went on to serve in the regular armed forces and lost their lives in combat.
Brown Low (staffs)  Round Barrow(s)  England  Staffordshire  Visited  1st Apr 2013  3  4  4
Blake Low  Round Barrow(s)  England  Staffordshire  Visited  1st Apr 2013  3  3  4  An easy site to access but the wooden fence surrounding the site and the close proximity of the farm buildings give the site a rather 'hemmed in' feel to it.
Egg Well  Holy Well or Sacred Spring  England  Staffordshire  Visited  3rd Sep 2011  3  4  4  Improvements have been made to the site with an information board and fence to stop the local livestock crowding round the entrance!
Bosley Cloud (1)  Standing Stone (Menhir)  England  Cheshire  Visited  1st Jan 0000  4  4
Sutton Hall  Round Barrow(s)  England  Cheshire  Visited  21st Aug 2011  2  2  4
Clulow Cross  Round Barrow(s)  England  Cheshire  Saw from a distance  21st Aug 2011  3  4  3
