Bratton Camp

Bratton Camp submitted by AngieLake on 13th Aug 2007. The Westbury White Horse and Bratton Camp's western embankments. This shows a little more of the panoramic view to the north than Jim's pic did, except it doesn't show the horrid factory!

The Sanctuary. submitted by AngieLake on 16th Aug 2007. Excuse the tilted angle - I'd waited so long in that layby for the sun to reappear!

Great Cursus Barrows, Stonehenge

Great Cursus Barrows, Stonehenge submitted by AngieLake on 2nd Jan 2009. I think some people will be shocked by the view of Stonehenge from the Cursus Barrows. The stones are almost hidden behind the buildings and vehicles in the car park. The site of the mesolithic posts would be at the right here, with the western one behind the toilet block.

Figsbury Rings

Figsbury Rings submitted by AngieLake on 25th Feb 2010. I don't think the late John Michell would begrudge us the sight of this photo [credited to 'Cambridge University collection'] on page 81 of 'A Little History of Astro-Archaeology', 2001 edition, Thames & Hudson. Thom's plan shows a mound which would have been visible from Stonehenge as a mark of a southern extreme of the moon.

Normanton Down

Normanton Down submitted by AngieLake on 14th May 2010. Stonehenge from Normanton Down, just near the junction of the very busy A303. With the large round barrow to SW of Stonehenge behind me, this view to NE lines up with the 'spine' of Stone 16 in the SW arc of the sarsen circle.

New King Barrows submitted by AngieLake on 17th May 2010. This is the barrow down-slope towards Stonehenge from the New King Barrows. I'm told it is known as Barrow 40. IIRC it lies to the south of the site of The Avenue.

Stanton Drew Great Circle

Site Type: Stone Circle Country: England (Somerset)

Stanton Drew Great Circle

Stanton Drew Great Circle submitted by AngieLake on 12th Nov 2004. One for Templar - panting sheep, sweating buckets in the May heat, in the shade of a stone of the main avenue. (Two days later, they'd been shorn!) For Liz's info, there was a small iron framework structure in the field, not far from the main entrance gate, that I'd not previously noticed, and a group of people were standing inside it, observing ....maybe afraid of the cows too?

Ham Hill stone circle

Ham Hill stone circle submitted by AngieLake on 2nd Jun 2006. Stone-lovers may have a 'love-hate' relationship with this modern circle at Ham Hill, but the shapes are interesting - especially here, as two curving menhirs seem to acknowledge the daytime moon.

Ham Hill (Somerset)

Ham Hill (Somerset) submitted by AngieLake on 2nd Jun 2006. I got permission from the quarry-man to go close enough to take this picture of the strata of the quarry face on Ham Hill. (The one nearest the modern circle). If this transfers to the web page successfully it might be possible to see the layers of stone used to create the Iron Age fort. (At least, that's what it looks like to me!) A similar pic was posted on Porth Island fort near Newquay.

Cow Castle

Cow Castle submitted by AngieLake on 30th Apr 2007. Cow Castle from the base of the Calf, the smaller conical hill. You can see the well-worn footpath leading to the fortification. It was a bit cloudy when I got there (about 5.30pm last Weds.), but the sun obliged by coming out later on. [This is the S/SE side.]
