Carreg Wen Fawr Y Rugos Stone Row

Carreg Wen Fawr Y Rugos Stone Row submitted by AngieLake on 22nd Apr 2010. Looking approx SW towards the patch of dry grass where the stone row is situated. Straight up from the right side of this stone [which may be part of a processional way towards the row from the valley of the Usk River at Llangynidr], you'll see the small patch almost on the brow of the near horizon. Above it is a shallow rise, upon which a cairn is situated. By dowsing, I also found a cairn on the slight rise to the left, where the near horizon meets the falling slope of the distant mountain...

Balnuaran Of Clava NE

Balnuaran Of Clava NE submitted by AngieLake on 20th Mar 2010. This is the stone near the NE cairn that I christened the '2001 Stone' after the monoliths in '2001- A Space Odyssey'. A crystal on this NE face gave me a strange sensation when I held my hand over it. In case anyone wants to check it out: I'd recorded it about 2/5ths of the way up from the ground, and about 1/3rd across the stone's width from the right. My plan shows it as kidney-shaped, or boomerang shaped [not quite 'crescent moon-shaped'!], concave/arc facing right. I'd guess it would ha...

Figsbury Rings

Figsbury Rings submitted by AngieLake on 25th Feb 2010. I don't think the late John Michell would begrudge us the sight of this photo [credited to 'Cambridge University collection'] on page 81 of 'A Little History of Astro-Archaeology', 2001 edition, Thames & Hudson. Thom's plan shows a mound which would have been visible from Stonehenge as a mark of a southern extreme of the moon.

Down Tor submitted by AngieLake on 20th Feb 2010. This restored cross stands just south of the track from Burrator reservoir, and NNE of Down Tor stone row and circle. Check out the lime green square link to 'Streetmap' OS map on the site page for position... (it's not the one near Crazywell Pool). Though it's a bit 'washed out', it gives some idea of the beauty of the area. (Have just come across this old photo, taken long before I got into stones! Surprised there aren't more pics of Down Tor or Hingston Hill site. Must try to visit th...
