Log Text: We have visited the cave.
It was not easy to find it as the routeplanner got confused. It is at the road Goaveien.
I took these coordinates: 58.9872198, 5.5966682.
From the street, just take the deadend street for cars and it is also a bikepath. There are 3 parkingplaces for cars next to the cave and a picknicktable.

Log Text: We habe visited this large site with rockpaintings. The bay area was very appealing, we could imagine this was a safe harbour to gather and live for our ancestors.
The rock art was pretty hard to see, due to mosses and water, the colours have disappeared.
But it was so great to be here.

Log Text: The Menhir is still in the backyard of a house, on the hilltop, though some further in the street. Look for the house with red rooftiles.
The right coordinates of Alnestrøya are 62.29096N and 5.58206E.
It was a pity we could not come closer, not from the hill and not via the backyard.
Menhir Alnestrøya must have had a stunning strategic view from the seaside as well from the fjordside.

Log Text: As it has rained the path was pretty wet. The stones were slippery.
Unfortunately trees are growing before the entrance of the cave so the entrance is hard to see from half way up.
But it was a challinging site, the rocks in front and the view on the bay/fjord.

Next to Fenicio la Fonteta the Caliphal Ribat was built, partly with stones of La Fonteta; it is dated 944AC and has 21 prayer cells, a Mosque and community area.
This mosque, including the quila of closure of the southern wall that was used to correctly direct the prayers of the faithful towards the sacred Kaaba in Mecca. They have also found a mihrab, a small, vaulted niche indicating the direction in which to face while praying. The construction of the arches of some of these reused elements are from the Phoenician site of La Fonteta. The rooms had a door and tiny windows to provide dim light inside that created a feeling of isolation and mysticism. At night they were lit with oil lamps that fitted into the walls.
Some of the cells were made of mud and whitewashed, others were made of lime mortar. Some of the cells have their original plaster, that show geometric motifs. A large number of ceramics were found, jugs, pots, alcadafe bowls, pitchers, lamps decorated plates and plates with the ancient Kufic characters. - these can be seen in the museum of Guadamar.

Yacimiento Arqueológico La Bastida

Yacimiento Arqueológico La Bastida submitted by Maatje on 18th Apr 2024. Site in Murcia Spain La Bastida - Totana - El Argar culture
(View photo, vote or add a comment)

Log Text: La Bastida is dated 2200 - 1550 BC.
This site can be visited with a guide during the weekend. It is signposted from Totana. More information is on the website.
It is a very remote site high upon a hill, at the steep borders of a canyon river.
It was discovered in the end of the 1869.
La Bastida is a Bronzeage city of the Al Algar Culture that conquers cities as Knossos and Mykonos. Archeologists are still excavating the hill and probebly is was completely inhabited.
The defence walls are thick and high.
The work, which continues today, shows an authentic city of some 40,000 m2 which, at its peak, some 3,800 years ago, was inhabited by some 1,000 people. At that time, it was one of the largest settlements in Europe and the western Mediterranean.

Dozens of dwellings have been found, terraced in artificial terraces along the slopes of the hill. The enclave itself is situated in a strategic location, hidden from the Guadalentín valley and with good natural conditions for defence.

The tombs are of particular interest, as they are located under the floor of the dwellings. They usually contained one or, sometimes, two individuals in a shrunken position, inside ceramic vessels or cists, i.e. boxes made of stone slabs or walls. Some of these tombs also contained offerings, such as ceramic bowls and pots, weapons, tools and ornaments of copper or silver, and necklaces of bone, shell and stone beads. The differences between these offerings tell us of a community divided into social classes.

It was an overwhelming archeological site.

Log Text: The Dolmen El Charcón was signposted well at the CA-0419 near (above) El Gastor.
The strenuous walk is uphill is 1.2 km with very nice views.
A beautifull site with large capstones, very special indeed.
It is situated next to the rim of the gorge of the river Arroyo de la Angostura.

After the climb uphill there is a sort of a valley with many heaps of stones and that area looks like other Castro's we have seen up north. In that area is Dolmen El Charcón II.

Log Text: The site was in good condition. The entrance, the fence, to the site was closed so you had to step over the side lower fence. That would be impossible with a wheelchair.
About the Dolmen, it is situated in a flat landscape and the shape is round hill and therefore peculiar in itself. Unfortunately another Dolmen nearby was destroyed in the 70's. In the area are traces found of villages, occupation and mines.
It is not mentioned where you can see the artifacts found, he beads. paints and tools.
I will add some pictures of the other sites in Vilamartín - most of them cannot be found.
