King's Quoit, Manorbier

King's Quoit, Manorbier submitted by sem on 25th Aug 2004. Looking SW,the view here is outstanding. This must have been a very sought after plot of Neolithic real-estate.It is set in a hollow on the cliffside lined with stones bigger than any but the capstone.Children & Nash suggest "no covering mound would have existed because the ledge.....is far too narrow." Lanacombe 3

Lanacombe 3 submitted by TheCaptain on 1st Aug 2007. My hat and bag are marking the positions of fallen stones I found under the turf. It looked to me as if this setting was once perhaps two rows running up the hillside, perhaps a sixpack.

Log Text: Car parking is available at SS 76428 42356. From here follow the bridleway eastward to the row. Whilst in the area it is worth having a look at the other Lanacombe stone rows and Trout Hill 4.

Lanacombe 5

Lanacombe 5 submitted by TheCaptain on 5th Aug 2007. On the south facing slopes of Lanacombe Hill on Exmoor, above the stream valley, are the remains of this recently found stone setting. I found many stones and stumps of stones standing proud of the ground, with below them a very marshy area possibly hiding many more. I also found several fallen and part buried stones, long and thin, which were obviously once meant to stand upright.

Log Text: Amble car parking is available at SS 76511 43232. From here head south east across the moorland to the site. Only one stone is upright and near to it is a broken stump. A couple of the larger recumbent stones are likely to have once stood upright but most of the stones are probably exposed bedrock. Whilst it is likely that there was a group of standing stones at this location not enough remains to establish their original form and therefore it is not possible to be confident that there was a stone row at this location.

Langstane (Orkney)

Langstane (Orkney) submitted by SandyG on 17th Sep 2015. Given its proximity to the road and cottage what are the chances that this stone is prehistoric and if so that it is its original location particularly as it has clearly at some time been broken in half and put back together (3rd June 2015).

Log Text: Car parking is available at SX 52178 77879. From the car park follow the track leading eastward. This one is a bit of slog, pretty much all uphill for over 3kms. The row is situated just inside the Merrivale military live firing range and it is important that you check that there is no firing and that the range is open for visitors. It’s a long way to go to find you can’t visit.
