This double stone row @ SX 6570 5717 has a cairn at the upper end
which is on the skyline when viewed from the lower end of the row. The ruined cairn is 8m
diameter & has a single slab at the centre in a hollow. Perhaps the remains of a burial kist. The row is 48m long with an azimuth of 45 degrees.
Strangely this row is aligned diagonally across the slope of the hill. It does not follow the natural contour of the downhill slope. The horizon height of the
cairn from the bot...

Porlock Allotment NE submitted by thecaptain on 2nd Nov 2006. What can be found is a large stone which looks like it might once have been standing. It’s a sort of triangular shape, 2.5 m long by 1.5 m wide.
I thought this was a lovely place above the conjugation of the two streams, all very atmospheric.

Green Hill - Stall Moor submitted by SandyG on 29th Jul 2013. The row meandering up the hillslope at SX 6368 6631. View from the south. This length of row clearly refutes the idea that the Dartmoor rows are always straight.

Log Text: This has never been an easy row to get to. When visited in 2013 car parking was available at SX 62524 61120. Recently (2016) this car parking area has been closed making it much more difficult to access this part of the moor. An alternative car parking location is at SX 64342 59548. From here the easiest way to reach the row is probably to head east to the Two Moors Way at SX 65765 59965. Then follow the track north to SX 64683 63454. From here navigate north west taking care when crossing the River Erme. Given the effort to get to the area it would be a good idea to have a look at the Hook Lake Row and if you have time the splendid one on Stalldown as well as some the amazing prehistoric settlements. Another option maybe to park at SX 60395 70806 and approach the row from the north via Crane Hill. A full day but hopefully a rewarding one. Best contemplated in the summer.

Sharpitor NE submitted by SandyG on 27th Jul 2015. On foggy Dartmoor days the archaeology can somehow seem bigger. Cairn below the the stone row has clearly been the target of early explorers. (23rd March 2013).

Holne Moor submitted by SandyG on 4th Oct 2014. This alignment is no less important because only small stones were selected by its builders. Visually it is certainly less spectacular but despite this it provides tangible evidence of prehistoric ritual. View from north west.
