Country: Scotland (Isle of Arran)

Machrie Moor 10 submitted by AngieLake on 8th Sep 2008. Stones at the SW of the Moss Farm Road (or Machrie Moor 10) circle. The stone on the left resembles the head and shoulders of a hooded person. It faces into the circle, and towards the NE and Midsummer sunrise. There's a dip in the hills at NE, and my ritual movement dowsing headed out of the circle in that direction. Its inner face also seems to have a circular carving.

Visited: Yes on 22nd Aug 2017. My rating: Condition 2 Ambience 5 Access 3

Tormore 2 submitted by AngieLake on 9th Sep 2008. Going by my sketch on the day, this view is looking towards a gap in the hills to the NE.
[Checked this site grid ref on www.danu.co.uk/gallery/info/stones/mosscairn.html. Calling it "Moss Farm Cairn", "grid ref NR 90590 32367", they say that it is: "An excavated cairn circle which lies in a field south of trackway to Machrie Moor just west of Moss Farm."
It was definitely between Moss Farm Road Circle and the main Machrie Moor circles.]

A large, partly destroyed, chambered cairn, with one remaining stone standing. The cairn overlooks North Sannox Burn, and lies just below a modern plantation. There are many hut circles and cairns in the plantation, and a hill fort to the North West nearby. The cairn is named "Lag nan Sasunnach" Grave of the Stranger

Stronach Standing Stone submitted by valters_grivins on 25th Oct 2010. Arran primary school standing stone. It was the first megalith we saw in our Arran trip. I guess moving litter bin some 10 meters away from the stone would be good option... October 2nd, 2010.

Blanefield submitted by Creative Commons on 16th Mar 2014. Duntreath Standing Stones. The line of stones shown here is located at the high point of a field, not far from the West Highland Way (the tops of these stones can be seen on the skyline from the adjacent section of that route). The hill that is prominent in the background is Dumgoyach.
Five stones can be seen in the photograph; another lies hidden by the tall grass between the leftmost two stones.

A radio-carbon date of 2860 +/- 270 bc suggests that it was erected in the Middle Neolithic period. The Middle Neolithic date combined with the closeness of the stones and the presence of an associated mound suggests that this is more likely to represent the remnants of a chambered cairn facade than a stone row.

Log Text: This line of stones is probably entirely the result of field clearance. The largest stone at the northern end clearly sits on top of stones similar in size to those which lie in a line parallel to the field wall. The proximity of the stone circle has probably influenced the interpretation of this site as prehistoric. Whilst a prehistoric date cannot be wholly discounted the feature as a whole has the appearance of being the result of field clearance.

Drumtroddan Cup and Ring Markings submitted by rockartuk on 20th Aug 2001. On a fenced outcrop, 200m South of the farm (NX 362 447), R.W.B. Morris counted 84 cup-and-rings (1979). This photo was taken in 1993 with the carvings still clear. However, in 2000 the marks turned very faint. Acid rain? The question of preservation (after about 5000 years!) is now actual as well as urgent. How?

Log Text: This site would be best visited in low bright light. I visited on a dull evening after days of torrential rain. The field in which the outcrops stand was really boggy in places and the art was flattened by the lighting conditions.
