Log Text: I finally secured access to the site today, thanks to the local farmer. The site is in a remote area not signposted and full of young bullocks.
The stone itself is on a steep hillside and appears to have been broken many years ago and I suspect a large amount is still buried beneath the ground.
I have tried to gain access for a few years, not for the faint hearted.
Porz Guen Dolmens
Date Added: 7th Sep 2024
Site Type: Burial Chamber or Dolmen
Country: France (Bretagne:Morbihan (56))
Visited: Yes on 7th May 2024. My rating: Condition 2 Ambience 4 Access 3

Porz Guen dolmens submitted by thecaptain on 14th Jun 2006. Remains of two dolmens on the clifftop to the north of the Porz Guen beach on the Cote Sauvage of the Quiberon Peninsula.
The more inland is the most complete, with one capstone surviving on the entry couloir. The chamber would probably have been roofed with large corbelled capstones around it, many of which survive fallen neaby.

Log Text: Long walk along the coastal path until we reached the Dolmen high up overlooking the sea, lovely site but now roped off to the public so could only get to within 10mtrs of the site.

Log Text: I visited today and was impressed with this singular menhir in a small field approximately 2km from the village of Bazouges.
It stands well over 5 meters in height and has various different lines and markings on its surface. I believe from local research that it was originally a polishing stone that was raised horizontally in the 1900s.
Even on a cold spring morning it is an imposing stone in a good setting.

Log Text: This site is local to me, I visited today and though the area is quite small the only indication of a site I could find was a small group of stones on a fairly straight line near a small natural pond. ( hence the name I assume)

We visited in January and the place was deserted. Fabulous .

Kermario Dolmen submitted by thecaptain on 18th Oct 2004. Kermario Dolmen, north of Carnac, Brittany.
View of the Kermario Dolmen which is right at the southwest corner of the Kermario Alignements, and right in the corner of the road which skirts the site.
This picture was taken in 1987 when people were free to wander amongst the stones as they pleased. The terrible erosion caused by all the visitors is only too obvious.

Log Text: As it is the quiet season, we were able at access the site on foot and take photos/enjoy the ambiance.
The whole area is outstanding and this dolmen is great, stand alone it would be worth a visit.

Log Text: I finally gained access to the site today, as the animals that had been on the field were moved. I parked at the field entrance and the site is approx 100mtrs on a slight hill.
It's in a poor state and not easily recognisable but was obviously a monolithic site.

Pierres dit Palais du Diable submitted by TheCaptain on 9th May 2005. Le Palais au Diable, or Pierres Jumelles, Mayenne.
Perhaps the whole thing is one giant burial mound, which it looks more like as seen here from the north.
It is all covered with trees with lots of birds singing, and a woodpecker pecking away with its loud ratatatatattatt.

Log Text: I found this site on a circular walk from the nearest village, it is on a recognised path through a wood and even though there are no signs for it, it was fairly easy to locate.
It is a nice site, very quiet and a great spot to sit with a bovril on a cold January morning.
The stones have been damaged at some time, but the central structure is still in place and the stones show signs of working.
Long Stone (Minchinhampton)
Date Added: 11th Dec 2023

Long Stone (Minchinhampton) submitted by TimPrevett on 30th Dec 2009. Sunset 26/12/09 - an unplanned visit to a number of sites in the area.
No maps - just a vague 1970s guidebook - took us a couple hours to locate this having gone from Minchinhampton via Hampton Fields to Tetbury to Avening missing the stone at first by a narrow margin.
Having resigned ourselves to a long barrow this stone was spotted with just a few minutes before the sun went below the horizon.
A very impressive 7 feet tall stone, and make sure to see the smaller stone bisecting the wall ...

Log Text: Passing through the area we made a detour and were rewarded with this lovely stone, shrouded in mystery. Easy to access and worth a visit.
Lots of the nooks and crannies are filled with coins and other offerings.
The smaller fallen stone is easily found embedded in the dry stone wall.

Log Text: I cycled to the site today, and what's left of the Dolmen is propped up against the side of the church in the centre of the village.
The are only 2 stones, what looks like the topstone and one other.
They are a rich brown colour fairly rare for thus area which has a lot of granite.

Log Text: Just to the side of the road outside the village stands this stone, good information board and parking.
The stone itself has many marks and indentations, I can imagine before it was damaged it would have been imposing.
